Can we do more with used oil?

So your statement I was all wrong about Valvoline NextGen was a market failure, now you agree to. That was literally all my post said about Valvoline. Just at the wholesale / fleet levels, and not really sure about the final point of use? Like potentially government fleets?

Can we do more with used oil?

Market failure of Valvoline NextGen is a fact. I don't know of any current retail PMCO using re-refined base stocks. Let us know the brands and % of recycled base oil they contain...

Are oil filter cap wrenches useless?

Overall, I prefer to use cap style filter wrenches these days. Prior to the 90"s I exclusively used band style oil filter wrenches with the occasional screwdriver driven through the filter. I have a cast aluminum cap style filter wrench initially for the PH 16 size filter from prior RAM trucks...

Refurbished battery smelled like rotten eggs while charging and then died?

Burned match smell is charachteristic of sulfur dioxide (SO2). Hydrogen Sulfide, H2S, has the rotten egg odor and is considerably more dangerous in terms of personnel exposure and fire / explosion as H2S is flammable. Burning H2S produces SO2.

Can we do more with used oil?

Yes, that preference for government agencies to preferentially use re-refined motor oils has been true for some time. A few years back Valvoline offered at retail motor oil formulated from re-refined base oil products called Next-gen. This only lasted a short time in the retail space, likely...

Can we do more with used oil?

Several schemes to re-refine used PMCO. The most promising was BP feeding into a Coker along with the normal Coker feed. After inspection during the next turnaround it was found processing the used PMCO took significant equipment life, far more so than the normal Coker feed. The additives that...

    Autozone “Oil Full” sign

You could check with O'Reilly in your area by phoning, or taking some fluids other than motor oil to them regardless of how unlikely this seems to you. The paper you sign for recycling fluids there is conditional with recycling fluid that requires you to bring motor oil only. It's been this way...

Which movie is better: Alien vs Aliens

I like the extended cut of Aliens the best, it included more stuff that was in the book, left out in the theatrical release.

    Autozone “Oil Full” sign

There have been numerous schemes to re-refine used motor oil. The additives in fully formulatedmotor oil present a real problem vs refining crude oil. BP tried coprocessing used PCMO in a unit called a Coker that processes . It incorporates thin oils. The next time that unit shut down for...

    Not impressed with Deka batteries

The OEM (Johnson Controls) AGM in my 2012 Ram has been in service 7.5 years now. The first 4 years were winters in the Great Lakes region with high ambient temperatures from 106°F summer of 2012 to -17°F & -19°F during the Polar Vortex winters there the next couple of winters. The last 3.5...

    Advantage of ethanol free fuel?

It's as always, due to Federal (all 50 states of the USA) RINs programs, and service stations that have a seperate underground tank for segregating E0 fuel are quite uncommon across most of the 50 states of the USA as evidenced at www.pure-gas.org. RINs Programs - financially penalize all E0...

Propene, polymer with ethene use in motor oil

There is the IUPAC naming convention, but it is relatively unpopular with marketing forces. The USA is absolutely not alone in this, Europeans use gas oil as a synonym for diesel fuel; in the USA gas oil is a petroleum distillation fraction from both atmospheric and vacuum dustillation processes...
