    Portable Car Vacuum Recommendations

Agree with everyone here. Any of these tool system vacs should have the power and size to get the job done. I mostly have Ridgid tools but I bought my first Ryobi batteries to get their fantastic shop and handheld vacs. No regrets - the mini shop vac in particular leaves absolutely nothing...

Four tire options, which would you pick?

Thanks for all the input! Most interested in Vredestein. Looking into the Hitrac vs the Quatrac but probably going Quatrac for the 3PMSF.

Four tire options, which would you pick?

Saw the amazing reviews. TireRack rated them up there with the CrossClimate 2. Sadly not available in 185/55R16.

    Michelin CrossClimate 2 (puncture issues)

Third year with these tires. Had one puncture in the first year but nothing since.

Four tire options, which would you pick?

Seems like most enthusiasm here is for the RT45s and the Quatracs. Aklimates seem maybe too new to know. No love for the Yokohamas. Regarding other sizes I would be worried about leaving no room for error on an already tight fit for my low profile snow chains which are mandated during chain...

Four tire options, which would you pick?

I don’t put a lot of miles on this car so low wear ratings would be totally fine if a tire is otherwise great. I’ve always replaced for age well before tread wear. The Premiers I have on there now are notorious for their quick wear but are getting replaced for age.

Four tire options, which would you pick?

I’d be willing to for the CrossClimate 2s which I have been loving on my other car. But they don’t offer them in anything reasonably close to the stock size. Everything else doesn’t seem worth the speedometer hassle over the options above unless you have something in mind. I’d also probably have...

Four tire options, which would you pick?

Time for new rubber on the Honda Fit. Replacing Michelin Premiers. Always bought Michelin but sadly Michelin doesn’t even have anything in their current lineup for 185 55R16 other than the X-Ice. Not thinking about alternate tire sizes at the moment. I’ve narrowed things down to four options in...

    Replacing wheel stud

Good luck. If I can make one quality of life recommendation for a stud replacement, it would be to rent this tool from Oreilleys...

My wife’s 14 Rogue. I’m not motivated to maintain.

Same situation. Thread rings true to me. Wife bought a Sentra before I met her. Got married, didn’t know what to do with it. She’s not a car person and her mom advised a Nissan because their family liked their Maximas in the 90s - totally different beasts. I figured that while a ton of the...

Extending a spare tire hold down bolt

Posting this here as a reference for the internet in case others find themselves in this situation. Recently I replaced my Sentra’s donut with a full size spare. The full size fit the trunk pan just fine but the hold down bolt was now too short. I wanted a bolt so it didn’t jostle around or...

    WM Exclusive: Goodyear Reliant All-Season

Called around the Bay Area when I bought one Reliant to make a spare tire. BigO wanted $50. Wheel Works was $50. Some local shops $50. $50 seems to be the modal number around here. Americas Tire wanted $32.

    Changed my vehicle batteries

Not to mention less strain on the alternator as old batteries may start to fail for quite a while before becoming symptomatic.

    GM 22" refillable wiper blades

Agree on the NWVBs being best wiper blades. Been buying the Honda refills for my Fit for 14 years now. Cost and performance wise, for a full frame and rubber replacement, the Bosch Icons are similarly great but when you consider the value in replacing the rubber only, the performance:cost ratio...

    Goodyear WeatherReady 2 Tires?

Yes. Very happy compared to all seasons especially on one occasion driving through unsalted Oregon roads with black ice. Grew up in the Midwest driving cars with all seasons and felt that these kept traction better on ice. On another occasion during mandatory chain conditions on the way to...

    Air locked caliper pin

Replaced the pin today with a new one with a fresh rubber sleeve. The new sleeve was much tighter and did not seal the bore like the worn out one. Interestingly when I opened the caliper to do this, the air had already worked itself out of the old one as some had suggested. Again, this thing was...

Rear Brake Drums for 09 Kia Rio

I had a bad run with AC Delco drums on a Nissan Sentra. The machining was uneven and caused the brake shoes to chatter. Found the solution to the chattering in a Ford TSB of all places. The fix was to either turn the drums or pull the handbrake and drive at low speed for a prescribed distance to...

So many abutment clips in brake pad box

My major experience with NVA is with brakes on a Sentra. Two successive sets of NVA front brakes developed a judder within 30K miles. The pads also squealed in the cold and Nissan had a TSB on this saying this is normal for value advantage but it was a warranty issue if factory pads are...

    Ford windshield or quality aftermarket?

AGC is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical and is a juggernaut in glass, if not still the largest glass company in the world. The OE windshield on my Honda is AGC as is the OE rear window on my Nissan. Both are perfect with zero distortion. Way better than the Vitro windshield on the Nissan. I...
