How do you guys sample your oil between changes?

Gary Allan I really like your idea. I just downloaded the repair manuals for my Toyota so I'll be figuring out the right size & thread pitch. Unfortunately they are probably metric which will cost more.

How long is my car going to last...how can I help it?

Just about anywhere FRAM is available, other filters are available, and even if FRAM is the cheapest, the next-cheapest is going to be a great value as long as it's not made by FRAM. There's really no excuse for using a FRAM other than ignorance.

    That was most unfortunate..

I'd be tempted to light a fire under it then shoot it.

    Piston slap and oil consumption

COuld be the oil flow upwards from under the piston on that particular design isn't that great, the amount that does make it into the CC while the mixture is ultra-rich. I could see that not being an issue.

How do you guys sample your oil between changes?

Well I am planning on adding an oil gauge, so I may try to find a distribution block that allows me to plumb into the hole for the idiot light on the dash, and hook in the stock sensor, my gauge sensor, and then some sort of valve like the Earl's.

How do you guys sample your oil between changes?

My ideal way would be to have some sort of valve plumbed into the pressure side of the oiling system, and I could turn the engine on, make sure it was fully warmed up, and just slightly open this valve enough to fill pu the cup and then reseal the valve. Have any of you guys done this?

What 0w- oils are there out there?

What 0 weight oils are out there for easy consumption? I don't regularly see it. When I have seen it, it seems that it was Mobil 1 0w40, Mobil1 0w20, and Castrol Syntec 0w30 (aka German Castrol or GC). I really like the idea of a 0w oil for better pupability at startup, and I would like to see...

ANyone ever installed an oil pressure gauge on a Toyota?

I would like to mount an auxiliary oil pressure gauge. I knew that there are cheap kits available, but I would like some advice about where to look for likely ports into the oil system. Thanks

Is there a FAQ about GC somewhere?

OK, I get it. So green is known to be good and the jury's still out on the gold. I can't imagine that the newer stuff would be WORSE than the older stuff. I guess the one US made one will stay on my shelf as a curiosity.

Is there a FAQ about GC somewhere?

I've used the search function and of course seen the two stickies at the top of the forum. I've gathered so far that the numbers on the bottom of the bottles indicate the year they were made, and that the older stuff is greenish, and at some point in the past they switched to brown/gold. Is...

    David McFall - 5w-20 article

That VSOT is some seriously good stuff. it's pretty thick though. I presume it wouldn't raise the viscosity at either end of the spectrum though?
