ACDelco TDS - Programming GM Modules?

Anyone have experience using GM's ACDelco TDS (Technical Delivery System) and their Service Programming System (SPS2)? Now that I'm out of warranty I'm thinking about getting all the modules in my 2021 GMC Canyon programmed with the latest and greatest. I've got a couple annoying glitches in...

Transmission Fluid - Amsoil Signature ATL vs HPL Green CC

Well, the combined shipping came to much less on the HPL Green CC. It ended up being $390. I figured for the extra $50 I'd give the HPL a shot. I've used Amsoil products on multiple vehicles with great success but I'm an HPL fanboy so I'll give it a try.

Transmission Fluid - Amsoil Signature ATL vs HPL Green CC

I'm going to be replacing all the fluid in my 2021 GMC Canyon and 2016 Mazda CX-5. The GMC takes Dexron LV HP (Mobil blue bottle) and the Mazda takes Mazda ATF-FZ. Not a drain and fill, a 100% fluid replacement. Amsoil ATL and HPL Green CC are 100% compatible with both vehicles and their...

Fluid film and wool wax question

I've used POR-15 on a couple of vehicles. Religiously followed the prep. Got rid of as much loose rust as possible and used a wire wheel and brush where possible. Used their Cleaner/Degreaser, then their Metal Prep which is a zinc phosphate wash, then two coats of POR-15. My experience is...

Fluid film and wool wax question

Anything is better than nothing, but it would be wise to get rid of more rust. Those bubbles on the frame is scale which is rust/rot. Grab a hammer and a chisel/big screwdriver and knock them off. Wire brush them after to get rid of the loose stuff. If you have access to air tools get a...

Piston Soak made smoking way worse ?

Good for you on doing the work yourself! If you had to drop this car off somewhere and pick it up with a new or rebuilt engine I'd say it wouldn't be worth it. Will you be assembling it yourself or have the machine shop do that for you? Let us know what pistons you end up going with. The...

STP S10158XL or Fram Ultra XG10158 for '16 Toyota 4Runner?

In the next year or so I plan on building a two car garage, big enough for a two post lift. Working on cars is a hobby for me and half of me wants to help a few neighbors out and do their oil changes, basic maintenance and simple repairs like brakes. The other half realizes it will probably be...

My gen 1 3.5 Ecoboost; An inauspicious Start

Food for thought, I'm sure the truck's computer knows the exact oil pressure. Perhaps a bluetooth OBDII scan tool and an app for your phone like Torque will tell you what the real oil pressure is.

Apartment dwellers... where are you doing your oil changes?

Buy some super duper filter and change it every couple of oil changes if your engine is clean, maybe at 10k or 15k. Get an oil extractor and suck the old oil out from the dipstick tube, pour in fresh oil, done. Find a friend with a house or find a parking lot to change the filter when its time.

My gen 1 3.5 Ecoboost; An inauspicious Start

I don't know these engines well but I'd be curious as to how it looks under the valve covers. And it might not be a bad idea to clean the oil pickup screen again and while your at it replace the oil pump! I'm amazed at how much carbon you collected in just 2,500 miles. HPL is the real deal...

HPL EC treatment started. 2007 Camry 2AZ-FE 153k consumption.

@skaughtz Good work! I'd make sure to have a good cleaning oil or additive in there for the rest of the engines life or it will just happen all over again, over time. Supertech with EC30, VRP, or maybe even VRP with a quart of EC30? If you ever decide to stretch out the OCI's perhaps one of...

Death wobble on the highway, wow!

Death wobble doesn't really leave tire marks and happens at a much higher frequency than that noticeable back and forth in the picture. My vote is that someone was doing a weak burnout and when the weight transferred from one side to another it took the weight off of one of the tires, leaving...

    Valvoline Restore and Protect - 2017 Hyundai 3.3 V6

I'm surprised you got ring deposits after using Royal Purple for the entirety of the engines life. Doesn't RP use an Ester/PAO blend? I thought much of the cleaning goodness was because of that?

Engine oil recommendation for Turbocharged Airboat

I'm curious. Do the Gen-III/IV LS engines have a built in oil temp sensor? Considering that it probably isn't cheap to build a boat like this an oil sensor and dedicated temperature gauge seems like a good idea. I'd still consider adding an oil cooler because....why not? I'm sure the turbo...

Engine oil recommendation for Turbocharged Airboat

@KeySmallBlock Even with a 40wt or 50wt it isn't going to make much more pressure. The bypass spring in the oil pump is what controls the max pressure. You will probably have a bit higher pressure at hot/cold idle, but not cruising. The pump is making max pressure (and bypassing anything in...

Daughter got first car....daughter also had first car accident. :(

Do you plan to try and fix it yourself? Would be a good chance for a father-daughter project. Take the wheel off and figure out what it broken/bent and get some new parts from Rock Auto. That bumper and fender trim look like they are okay but you'll probably need a new fender. Get some color...

Under valve cover pics - 06 Toyota matrix

OP, keep doing what you are doing! You mention that you have a good stock of oil so no need for VRP or HPL yet, but I vote adding a quart of HPL's EC-30 for each OCI, shooting for 5k OCI's. It will help clean that varnish over time.

HPL Manual Transmission Life...vs Other GL-4 Synthetics?

Mary Jane sent me the datasheet so I am posting this here for any that stumble upon this. See below for the specs HPL Manual Transmission Life and Redline's MT-90 and Amsoil's Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube (MTG). HPL Manual Transmission Life: Redline MT-90: Amsoil Synthetic...

What kind of SxS do you have?

I'm jealous of all you guys! Here in Mass it is virtually outlawed to operate a SxS, four wheeler or even a dirt bike on public land. There are very few trails open to offroading and they are mostly limited to single track dirt bikes. A few four wheelers but they are width limited so no...

    HPL Cleaner - Drain Interval?

I changed the oil with the EC30 at about 3,300 miles last weekend (2/15/25). I added about 3/4 of a quart at 2,000 miles and at 3,300 miles I was still full. Wasn't very scientific about it but it looks like an improvement has been made. For the oil change I put some fresh cheap Supertech in...
