I'm going to be replacing all the fluid in my 2021 GMC Canyon and 2016 Mazda CX-5. The GMC takes Dexron LV HP (Mobil blue bottle) and the Mazda takes Mazda ATF-FZ. Not a drain and fill, a 100% fluid replacement.

Amsoil ATL and HPL Green CC are 100% compatible with both vehicles and their fluid requirements. I'm having a tough time deciding which one to get as there is a big price difference between them. But these fluids will last years so I don't mind forking out the extra cash if I need to.

Amsoil ATL
cSt@40C 30.8
cSt@100C 6.3
Viscosity Index 159
Pour Point -85F

HPL Green CC
cSt@40C 32.07
cSt@100C 6.309
Viscosity Index 152
Pour Point -87F

Cost: (24 quarts, 2x12qt case)
Amsoil - $340.90. Free shipping, preferred pricing
HPL - $426.77. With BITOG15 discount.

Note, I think the combined shipping is a little high for 2 cases of HPL. I'll call Mary Jane, this might come down a few bucks.

Thoughts?

I'm sure they're both beyond excellent in your application so I think you're splitting hairs here. Since you mention price and the major discrepancy I would go with Amsoil. If it wasn't an issue you wouldn't have mentioned it.

I know these aren't the same vehicles, but I am running the ATL in my wife's 2014 CRV with ~170k. I didn't switch until after the 100k warranty was up. I also didn't do a full replacement. I have done 2 spill and fills so I would say ~60-70% of the fluid is Amsoil and the rest OEM. When the MM shows it's time for another change, I'll use ATL again. I am also a preferred customer, so I get it at the cheaper price.

I also changed my 2001 S4 over to Amsoil ATF but that was before they had 4 different blends. It is the old ATF, non-signature nor OE. That car takes 10qts and I believe they used 7 with a filter change. I swore once I hit 100K, I would have them change it again to get mostly all new fluid, but I stopped driving the car when COVID hit and it is sitting at around 99.8k. One of these days, I'll re-register it and start driving again once I figure out how to pass inspection without spending thousands of dollars.

I guess my point is, people say to only use DW-1 for Honda and OE VW fluid. In both my cases, nothing bad has happened. I can say that my S4 probably has ~20-30k on the fluid now.

+1 for Amsoil ATL. I did 3 “spill and fills” of the 6R80 in my F150 at 116K and now am at 123K. Absolutely no issues, and probably have had a solid 700 miles towing heavy on the fluid so far. Mileage-wise I’m just at the beginning obviously, but still, I believe it’s a valid data point of ATL not causing any issues and being a fair price.

I’ve used amsoil ATF in nearly all the units I’ve taken care of since around 2010. The only other has been maxlife if I’m doing it for free for a friend where it’s their car and I’m paying for it. I have not had any issues with amsoil in:
- many Hondas
- Suzuki vitara
- GM FWD
- Jeep nag1
- Lexus RWD
- multiple Volvo p2
- I’ve tried it in the ford 10r80 but the viscosity isnt right.
- theres probably more.

Well, the combined shipping came to much less on the HPL Green CC. It ended up being $390. I figured for the extra $50 I'd give the HPL a shot. I've used Amsoil products on multiple vehicles with great success but I'm an HPL fanboy so I'll give it a try.

I haves used HPL green in a 14 Venza 121k mi and green cc in a 21 RX350 17k mi. So far I am pleased. The 14 was a dealer 3gal flush and 21 was a 1gal spill/fill.
