Safe to switch from SAE 80 to 75W-80?

I agree that the 75W-85 is a better choice, i regret that now. But the Total was a great deal and had to take it. The most ideal product here should be the AC Delco 75W-85 GL4, which is recommended for later models, and i read somewhere the cSt was around 12. I didn't grab it because it was...

Safe to switch from SAE 80 to 75W-80?

I have seen that in Europe they recommend something like this 80W from Liqui-Moly: https://products.liqui-moly.com/gear-oil-gl4-sae-80w-2.html Which has a cSt @ 100°C = 10,0 Is it so much different than the Total 75W-80 that i want to use? @meep , thanks for the answer! That is my only...

Safe to switch from SAE 80 to 75W-80?

Since i bought my 94 Opel/Chevrolet (4 years ago) i am trying to decide which MTF to use. It has a manual transmission and it's front wheel drive. The recommendation was SAE 80 as a "lifetime" fluid, and today there is pretty much only one option around here to choose from, which is a mineral...

For those that advocate 10K miles OCI

" Most people don't qualify for 10k miles OCI" I think this is the key observation on the video. If you do, that's fine.

Got another Foxbody Mustang. PO has been using VR1 20w50

What is the ideal hot oil pressure that it should run? I believe that you will have around +10% difference in oil pressure (at op. temperature) comparing M1 15W50 and 0W40, since the HTHS are 4.5 and 3.6 respectively. What about Rotella T6 15W40 or some HPL? PS: Very nice ride! I love the...

Cleantechnica: Synthetic Fuels Won’t Replace EVs

Yes it does, since the 80's. But what is referred to E100, is hydrous ethanol, which contains around 95% ethanol and 5% water. My 94' Kadett only use E100, since factory, still running like a champ.

Cleantechnica: Synthetic Fuels Won’t Replace EVs

I would say that, for those engines running E85, a simple ECU recalibration would make they run normally on E100. The problem would be the cold weather and cold starts for using ethanol. But i think the newest generations of Flex fuel cars around here, already have a heated fuel rail that can...

When and how have you personally deviated from the car owners manual

@SR5 i didn't know the Astra was also sold with the Holden badge! Here we have the Chevrolet Astra 1.8 or 2.0L. What type of engine is the 1.8 that you have? The owners manual of the 1.8L indicates to use a 5W30 API SL, which includes ILSAC oils: I have the older brother Kadett, and i am...

    Can anyone ID this engine?

The Testarossa had a flat 12, or how they called it, "180º V12". But that one looks more like a racing engine, with the ITB's Alfa Romeo also did a flat 12 for some racing cars, and it looks similar to the one you posted: Anyway, that's a cool find!

    Mobil AFE 0w30 4832 Miles - Jeep Renegade 1.3T

....compared to the last UOA that he had a ~6cst @100 , this one (at 7 cst@100) is closer to what a real 30 grade should be. Good to see that those little 1.3T engines are going well, yours seem to be trending down nicely. Thanks for the UOA

Leaving this afternoon with 8.5 K on this oil change

I think that we all know it will make no difference in your case, so it all depends of how much free time you have now compared to when you come back. If you think you have more time now, just change it, one less thing to worry about when you come back home tired after a long trip. Edit - Just...

    Dipstick Oil Colour

Since it's only a thin film of oil that stay on the dipstick, it will look much more cleaner compared to the same oil drained on a bottle, like the third sample on the video.

Wife wanted a boat, I didn't we compromised and got a boat.

That is really nice man! I have a 1996 Striper 1850WA for about 15 years now, it's a great little boat! Looking to your boat got me some nostalgic feelings since we also had the Ocean Pro when we got it. But we had the 150HP, it was a great engine, but the 6 carburetors and fuel consumption...

    CHEVROLET small pickup ...

These types of pickups are very common here in Brazil and always had. Here is the Fiat Fiorino back in the 90's, like many cars in that era, you could buy either the ethanol or gasoline version: And today you can buy the Fiat Strada (flexfuel), also available with the extended cab: VW and...

    Honda 15400-RTA-003 / '09 Fit / 5k miles (1,5years) / Ethanol use

Yes, using ethanol the oil don't go black as fast as using gas. To be fair i thought the oil would be cleaner, but considering the time it was in use and the amount of short trips, it hold well (at least on the visible side) This was the remaining oil inside the filter:
