    Why change your own oil?

One of them used to get drained. However, my Mercedes has never been drained in 16 years. I'd imagine some of this debris could be evacuated out the same way it can drain out. I don't know for sure though, you could be right that draining is preferred. I have always changed the filter...

    Why change your own oil?

I use mity vac or similar on a couple of my cars. If you do regular changes, I see no consequences. I say not messing with the splash shield (if filter is on top) and drain plug are pros as well, less that could go wrong. Maybe if you have a neglected car you could argue draining is better...

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

I've wondered if the cleaning ability decays during the OCI as well. I'd love to hear any speculation on this? Part two, I think every car would be different in terms of how long it takes to clean the rings. I could see some cars needing more than even the four suggested changes, especially...

    Rerefined motor oil?

Valvoline white bottles still have a logo on the back that says something to the effect "NextGen Technology." I'm sure most will remember their NextGen oil line.

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

There's a lot of positive feedback. Posts here I find more valid than elsewhere, mainly as there seems to be more detail accompanied with it. However, ironically, my consumption has increased with the product so far. I'm going to try another OCI or two.

    Change oil every 2k?!

Well, yeah a manufacturer is never going to suggest 2000 mile changes.

    Change oil every 2k?!

With a Nissan GTR, seems reasonable maybe? Not too many are commuting in em?

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

Thanks! I'm not having a lot of faith, so I appreciate your encouragement. I haven't tried piston soak. The oil trap that includes PCV system was done 10k miles ago. If things don't get better, I'm going to be very curious to see when I go back to a Euro oil, if consumption is now bad on...

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

I'm trying to decide what to do in my 2014 Volvo 5 Cylinder. I've had Restore and Protect 5w-30 in there 5000 miles now. Consumption keeps getting worse compared to the M1 0w-40 (what I used) and dealer Castrol Professional 5w-30. I think R&P has probably gotten thinner and thinner during...

    2020 Acura RDX, Valvoline 5-30 R&P, 4500 miles

Thanks for posting a restore and protect analysis. It looks a bit better than Advanced! Seems like a great report outside the Acura GDI fuel dilution, that appears to be the norm! :)

Does Castrol need better products or marketing?

I never get the impression Castrol does anything better than anyone else. I will be using it in my 24 Volvo S60 T8 for a while, the one with Volvo spec, only for warranty reasons. I know it was 10+ years ago and things might have changed, but I always think about those Pennzoil Ultra...

Oil Change Interval for Low Use 10 Quart Mobil 1 Corvette

I have two Mercedes I put about 1000 miles on per year (at most). I'm probably going to do 24-30 months on them. They both actually went SEVEN years recently, but each with only 2000 miles total. Mobil 1 0w-40. I'm using them more now (thus the 1000 mile per year estimate). I sure wish I had...

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10w30 out of stock everywhere?

I'm disappointed Ultra Platinum was dropped from most Walmarts (in all viscosities). A product that actually seemed a step above most, and they drop it.

    2013 Volvo XC60

I haven't done extensive research, but I know some 3.2s have the consumption issues too. I agree it's a great engine otherwise. This generation of their cars is solid too. I did have to do some suspension work on my S60. The strut mounts are a weak point (might be similar part on SUVs since...

    2013 Volvo XC60

The engines of this time usually have consumption if not corrected at some point. The oil control rings were too fine. I'm at a quart in 2000 miles, but many cars start burning a quart in 500 miles. Bailes' 2008 would not have been affected. The rings were still normal then. As Bailes...
