    Tornado damaged C8's destroyed

If GM is self-insured on these, which is highly likely, they are the insurer and already have possession of and are disposing of the cars. As was said above, for a company the size of GM, the value of all these cars combined is found-in-the-sofa-cushions stuff.

    Tornado damaged C8's destroyed

Those parts have been installed, and would be considered "used". Reselling them is not something GM would want to do. Consider the labor to dismantle, assess damage, etc. and it becomes a financial...and liability...nightmare. For us, it can be a fun scrounge but better to scrap them. I truly...

Just inherited a car that hasn't been driven since 1993

You may be missing the point: this was his father's car, so pure financial input is not enough. Important, yes, but not enough. Your observations have merit but they are unknowns right now and do warrant evaluating. Were it my car under the circumstances he describes I would pursue the steps...

My new favorite Christmas ad: daughter restores her Mom's 1966 Impala for her father

I've seen it a half a dozen times, and tears still come to my eyes.

Beware of K&N and AEM, now part of K&N!

If you haven't already, contact your credit card issuer so you can dispute the charges. Seven weeks is crazy.

    Replace or resurface rotors

Agree with this. If the braking is smooth, just do the pads. If the rotors need resurfacing in the future, you will have plenty of thickness to do that.

    Auto insurance questions - UIM

UIM coverage also helps you if in that same situation, you have serious injuries. Best of my knowledge, it can apply to a passenger as well for a not-at-fault accident. It's way beyond what med-pay or group insurance provides. Example is the drunk who hits you with low liability limits (if any)...

    Insurance Dilemna

If you want the option (which it sounds like you do) of keeping the Impala, I would explore that. No problem that I know of in exploring which shop works in your favor. It's not uncommon for a car to be "worth" to it's owner more than total loss calculation says it is, certainly for the reason...

Vehicle Sighting - 1955 Oldsmobile Holiday

The pic is of a 1964, not a '54. 63-64 Olds were my favorites for styling...that sculpture on the fenders was terrific.

Vehicle Sighting - 1955 Oldsmobile Holiday

Best I recall growing up in the 50's with a dad who loved Oldsmobiles, the "Holiday" meant it was what GM would later call a "hardtop", i.e., a non-post two door or four door.

    Aftermarket CVT Fluid

Make sure what fluid they use is compatible with Toyota WS. Toyota's CVT's do NOT use "CVT" fluid. Not saying either of the two you mention are non-compatible with WS but make sure.

    Review: '21 Suburban Z71 (14,574 miles/6 weeks)

What was the gas mileage on it? An odd question given the heft of a 'Burb but curious.

    Hybrid-Engine not shutting down

That is a very cool solution! Hope it helps Spector!

    Hybrid-Engine not shutting down

Just a guess, but I wonder if the main battery is fading/crashing, such that the IC engine runs most of the time. IDK what the expected longevity is of Ford's batteries in that regard. Then again, it could be it isn't getting recharged like it should, i.e., the module/chip thing you mentioned...

Need recommendation for trans fluid for 3.5L 2GR-FXS (2019 hybrid Toyota Highlander)

It is a CVT but it is not belt or chain-driven as most others are, and it uses Toyota's WS as a result. That recommendation is not a typo. I have a 2013 Avalon Hybrid (powertrain is essentially the Camry hybrid's) with the same design CVT as yours. I changed the original WS to Redline D6 at...
