If I were to use any run in additive, it would be this:

Don't overdue it. You don't have to use the whole bottle. It really has a lot of ZDDP......There is a chart on the page to get the PPM you need.

If that is true, I doubt it has anything to do with oils used. That would have to do with too much time spent idling/barely rolling, in rush hour traffic.
More load on the alternator, and the thermostat will run a bit more closed, similar to running in a colder temperature......So mileage will suffer. But it will not harm anything else, in the short term.

I believe that solenoid packs often fail because they get loaded up with magnetic particles. It wasn't the fluids fault, but the flushing got those particles disturbed and moving. Enough of them collected on the electromagnets in the solenoid pack to kill it.
Would it have happened anyway...

Flywheel mass makes idle much smoother. But I guess that is a "Drivability" issues, as well. Getting a manual transmission vehicle moving with an extra light flywheel requires a lot of clutch slippage.
If you want to save money, just use Mobil 1 15W/50. It has plenty of zinc, and does not have friction modifiers. In fact, when it has been compared to the motorcycle specific Mobil 1, it is almost indistinguishable. My Wallyworld just started carrying it in the 5 quart jug again.

I am not brand loyal, but I do tend to continue to use specific products that have worked well for me. I use Mobil 1 in 0W/30 AFE and 5W/30 in my cars and trucks. I use 15W/50 Mobil 1 in one of my motorcycles, and I use Delo 5W40 or Rotella T6 interchangeably in the other.

For snow duty, the best are anything German, and Subaru.
Personally, I am too old to want to maintain a German anything.
So I have a Subaru. Not nearly as fun, but a whole lot less work.
