Using JB Weld to (temporarily) re-attach a snapped CV drive axle (your thoughts?)

Any tips on how to find a tow truck service? Should I insist on a flatbed? Once it's towered to the dealership, should I make arrangements to make sure it goes into the correct bay? Or do I not need to worry about this, the dealership will handle it?

Using JB Weld to (temporarily) re-attach a snapped CV drive axle (your thoughts?)

It's unanimous then: it's a dumb idea (as I suspected..) I'll just wait a few days for tow services to be available again. This storm IDA caused quite a flood and many cars were disabled as a result of it and they all need tow services, thus the unavailability.

Using JB Weld to (temporarily) re-attach a snapped CV drive axle (your thoughts?)

Yup, yup, you right. I GOogled the idea, NO ONE has done it-----because it's real dumb.

Using JB Weld to (temporarily) re-attach a snapped CV drive axle (your thoughts?)

Actually, I've come to learn that many dealers do not have their tow service.. they rely on 3rd party help. I believe I got the message: this will NOT work. I'll abandon the idea before even beginning. Thanks.

Using JB Weld to (temporarily) re-attach a snapped CV drive axle (your thoughts?)

I will share pics soon, obviously it will depend on how this thing snapped..

Using JB Weld to (temporarily) re-attach a snapped CV drive axle (your thoughts?)

So, my 2012 Honda Fit's CV axle snapped just now. I managed to push it near the curb where it is parked. This happened 1 week before I was set to bring it to Honda to replace those same CV axles as part of their recall campaign (many 2009 to 2013 Honda Fits have had the CV axles snap due to...

    Returning Walmart Value Battery

I have the ValuPower battery in 2007 Corolla----it is lasting longer than OEM and slightly longer so far than the Kirkland Signature Costco battery (also Johnson Control) so far... So it's good. I'm not sure if Everstart Value is the same value though....

Is it a good idea to replace rear brake drums WITHOUT replacing the brake shoe pads?

There's definitely a spinning wheel adjuster that you can use a flathead screw driver to push and spin, so I'm sure I can get the brake shoes to make contact with the new rust-free Centric brake drums. The question is: will OLD WEAR PATTERN render these brakes less effective.

Is it a good idea to replace rear brake drums WITHOUT replacing the brake shoe pads?

Now, why would someone want to do that? Here's the reason: the brake drums are realllllly ugly and full of nasty rust, HOWEVER they work great. So there's no functional reason to replace them at this time, setting the parking brake locks them up real tight. So they work great but they're just...

Will this work: file away, destroy, the threads on this top strut bolt.

These are free runners. I will make note of the impact wrench. Thank you.

Will this work: file away, destroy, the threads on this top strut bolt.

Experimentation and also.... installation error requiring removing everything and re-installing.

Will this work: file away, destroy, the threads on this top strut bolt.

This is a design error, not user error. The design is such that EVERY SINGLE TIME you use the top-flat part to tighten the nut, you HAVE TO repair the thread---it's a must. This is a poor design choice, for sure. The metal deforms every single time you use that flat part. I used an adjustable...

Will this work: file away, destroy, the threads on this top strut bolt.

All right, here's an update and here's how I solved the problem. First I use a file to file away the top thread, then just based on a hunch, I use the TOP NUT, spinning clockwise and counter-clockwise back and forth to eventually "repair" the thread enough so that it spins freely.. The TOP...

I meant the open end!!!! That must have been confusing and dumb :)

Will this work: file away, destroy, the threads on this top strut bolt.

I used a Craftsman then a Husky all 10mm have some play to be honest, the adjustables tend not to hold position well.. oh well

Will this work: file away, destroy, the threads on this top strut bolt.

I'm glad you brought this up: during the first installation, the nut will spin freely going up and down. Once the nut is down, you have to tighten it holding a wrench to the flat part, this holding with a wrench deforms just enough of the thread to cause any FUTURE installation and...

Will this work: file away, destroy, the threads on this top strut bolt.

^ This here is the top of a TEIN damper bolt. You can see the top is machined flat which allows you to use the box end of a 10mm wrench to hold the bolt in place. Here's the problem with this design: using the 10mm wrench causes the thread part to deform a little bit, even a little bit causes a...

Small data point: How long does it take for a sway bar end link to fail after the grease leaks out? 2 years.

2 years ago, I installed a Bilstein B12 kit on my 2007 Corolla, since this replaces both the springs and dampers on a MacPherson Strut, the end links have to come off as well. It was my first time doing any suspension work, removing the sway bar end links proved to be one of the major headaches...

UNREASONABLE: I fear getting under a car on a lift, or even on jack stands.

I avoid getting under a car except for something "real quick," it's an unreasonable fear I think. If there are statistics about "accidents" of this type, they will surely prove how safe it is to get under a car if you have jack stands or a properly installed lift system. Even so, I won't do it...

Do you think stiffer springs will help with side to side swaying type motion?

Everything is a compromise, I'm willing to stick with the FIT (at least for now) because it's fairly special in some ways: uniquely excellent forward visibility (rear visibility being very good as well,) a truly alien and interesting looking forward dashboard design, one of the few cars that...
