How to cut down on stereo speaker Hiss....

Just as an FYI, the class D amps used in many self-powered speakers are noisy. As posted above, get the input into the speaker as loud as practical, and then the hiss in the amp won't be amplified by the speaker's volume control, as much.

    home security camera question

I've got 5 reolink cams right now. I *had* the server. Its' fan was way too loud. I just use in-camera sd card units. Four of the five are wireless, and my back yard is watched by a cam with a solar panel to keep the battery charged thru long winter nights. I'm watching for the amazon delivery...

Oily Spark Plug, Should I Go Thicker?

Yes, repaste. ...Well, if it's not too difficult. If you download a program called HWInfo, you can see hot hot your processor runs under load. PM me if you need details.

Oily Spark Plug, Should I Go Thicker?

As every PC overclocker knows, two bare metal surfaces don't have enough contact to effectively transfer heat. That's why very expensive (by weight/volume) thermal compounds are used. Oil will conduct heat through surfaces that otherwise wouldn't touch. Oil is an insulator, so if it *did*...

France passes bill to allow police remotely activate phone camera, microphone, spy on people

Level 1 Techs does a weekly 'news' show. This turned up today. The gist is that remote activation of mic and camera on smartphones is available right now (on YOUR phone, and all others...) I'm not big on conspiracy type stuff, but this is a bit alarming to me. I made sure to tell the TLA's...

    P.F. YouTube video ( 13:39 ) : '23 Best lawn mower blade sharpener ? $9 > $1,200 .

Project Farm on youtube. I also use that sears bench grinder. I'm not very steady any more, but the blades do still cut nicely. The blade balance cone is my most important tool.

Storing Flashlight Batteries (A, C, D cells, etc.)

AlkaLeaks (er-I mean alkaline) batteries should be replaced with rechargeables. AA rechargeables can be placed in larger carriers to create D cells, and AAA's can make C cells. Nine volt cells are also available as rechargeables, using lithium. I've got a few on-order for testing. Single-use...

Sick and tired of the "listening"

When I bought my audi, I started seeing them every where. Same with the CX-5. I've *never* experienced webpages showing items of discussion.

    CPAP Users

"Flush out your hose and water tank with hydrogen peroxide" Make sure you rinse that stuff out! It is very dangerous to breathe in. (Said I, after partially doing so, then googling my symptoms).

    CPAP Users

Using dish soap will leave residue. You probably don't want to breathe that in, especially under pressure. You also don't want to rinse with anything but distilled water. For the same reason you only use distilled water into a nasal irrigator. Over the counter alcohol should clean out the...

    DIY oil changes and migraines

I would get headaches and dizziness every time. It turned out to be carbon monoxide from the cars. I bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Forensics-Sensitive-Resolution-Calibration-Inspectors/dp/B08WK2NBTK/ref=sr_1_38_sspa? Yeah-I know it's crazy expensive, but it *immediately* shows...

    Are these Roaches?

I occasionally spread Spectracide Triazicide around the yard. I've had a very difficult time stopping spiders and centipedes getting into my poured concrete foundation basement. This spring I sprayed diatomaceous earth on all sill plates, around the electric ingress and on top of the gas water...

    Lawn care

I tried milorganite a few years ago. It had NO effect on my lawn over the first 3 months of growth. Note that it is the microbes that eat sewage. The do state to use a MASK, and to not use it in GARDENS. I won't use it again.

    Lawn care

I have mulched almost every mow, for 30 years. My lawn is doing great. You *do* have to cut a bit higher, so the clippings have somewhere to nestle into... I do 3-3.5 inches.

Drag mat - for lawn area

When I did final grading on my 2/3 acre lawn, I used an 8' long 2x10 held vertically (it was attached to a steel blade for my Honda garden tractor).
