    Snap-On Tool Warranty

My dad was a farmer in Saskatchewan and developed a good relationship with a guy that ran a truck. He’d come out to the farm every month or so and dad would generally spend a few grand a year on tools back in the 70’s and 80’s. We’re on the west coast now and the truck guy has long since...

What are you working on today?

I rented an orbital deck sander and cleaned up the old deck in the backyard so I can give it some primer and solid colour stain/paint. Should keep it in shape for a few more years. While I was taking a break I put a new spark plug in the pressure washer and changed the oil (Supertech 5w40)

One of my home nurses has 35,000 miles on her oil change!

I get your point here but….that would be a tiny, low quality tattoo.

    History Channel Show "ALONE"

Yes I grew up on the farm in Sask and saw that in action a lot. If a guy had issues like illness, injury, or even equipment trouble, neighbours would help out.

Seat belt retraction ‐ rebuild services?

If they really felt strongly about it they would offer the same warranty in Canada. They do not seem to care at all up here.

    History Channel Show "ALONE"

I’ve enjoyed the seasons I’ve watched. I love living on Vancouver Island but would not like to try living off the land during winter - it would be miserable!

Canadian Toyota Block Heater "imported" to the US

Not many block heaters in my area but I suppose most other spots do have them. To OP - One thing I’ll note about the border - they almost never care but it makes absolutely no sense to me to try to sneak something through. Half the time they will wave you through anyway and the rest you’ll just...

Not Wanting To Be Involved In Siblings Wedding

I’m glad I got married in Vegas. Cheap, fun, stress free, and Elvis officiated!

    2025 Nissan Leaf S for $22500

I’m driving a 2011 Leaf with 68% state of health and a range of approx 56 miles. Works great for us and we’ve had no issues. Reduced range over winter and over time will be fine. Not good for lots of people but….this is totally fine for lots too. Cheap car to buy and operate - I believe we’ll...

    New Tesla store opened

I was at Uptown mall in Victoria today and was surprised to see they now have 16 superchargers. It used to be 2 last time I looked.

    Would you buy a hybrid?

Yes this is true and I live in a favourable climate where the lack of carbon ok’ing isn’t a problem. There are various EVs with much larger and actively cooled batteries that should become cheap as they get to 10 years old or more yet provide good range. I could see myself getting an older...

    Would you buy a hybrid?

I’m not going to argue the Leaf doesn’t have issues - it obviously does. However, we’re loving our new to us 2011 Leaf and it’s great for our around town driving and also shorter highway trips. Most of our driving is now in the Leaf. It’s at 68% State of Health but still a great vehicle for our...

    Post your latest tire purchase

I got CrossClimate 2s at Costco about 25,000km ago - one of them went flat and it turned out it couldn't be fixed due to the positions of multiple holes. These tires have been discontinued in this size so Costco actually gave me four new tires at a cost of $101. Nice deal for me. 4 new...

Goodbye ‘93 Tercel - Thanks for your service!

I think $3k was a decent price - nicer ones were going for more. I didn’t really have to rebuild it but I hadn’t done a rebuild for about 10 years and I wanted the challenge. It was fun but also tough. I did it in February and it rained every day - I was outside but under a carport. The...

Spotted a unicorn: 2011 Camry with a manual

I sold my 2011 Tucson with manual last year and every single person who looked was from Mexico or Peru. One guy said the vast majority of vehicles down there are still stick.

    Anyone still use bar soap?

I use a tea tree oil bar soap that a local company makes. At the sink, I use a mix with Dr Bronner’s Lavender and water.

    Hybrids in cold weather

I see lots of EVs in Alberta and Saskatchewan and know people who drive them year round, without issue. Sure, you lose range but unless you’re already pushing to the max it usually isn’t an issue. Most folks don’t drive super far daily. If they do, they don’t have an EV.

    Hybrids in cold weather

Incorrect. There are a lot of both types that operate throughout winter.

Who has deaf/hearing impaired family members?

My wife's grandmother passed away a couple of years ago. She was still sharp but really couldn't meaningfully participate in conversations or activities the last 5 years because her hearing was so poor. She wouldn't entertain getting hearing aids because " they won't work and they'll rip me...

Has anybody removed there 'splash shield' aka 'belly pan' permanently

On my old Tercel I left it off for a few years. I thought heavy rains here would be a problem for belts, etc....but it made no difference.
