Is there a tire that's tougher than a normal all season, but not quite A/T

Nokian Outpost APT or Nitto Nomad Grappler in the mild A/T class.

SUV All Weather on Well-Moderate Maintained FSRs?

Oh that's pretty much what I'd be doing. Thanks then!

SUV All Weather on Well-Moderate Maintained FSRs?

So maybe like a Nokian WRG4, Michelin CrossClimate2, or Toyo Celsius CUV then these are the top contenders. Really, I'm not too concerned if they wear a bit faster in the summer for the 1 month I will occasionally use them for casual off-road.

SUV All Weather on Well-Moderate Maintained FSRs?

Can you comment on how the all-weathers fared in mild off-road (as I've described) compared to any all-terrains?

SUV All Weather on Well-Moderate Maintained FSRs?

Yeah, now that I think about it, I've seen plenty of vehicles out in the backcountry roads with only their factory OEMs and they did fine.

SUV All Weather on Well-Moderate Maintained FSRs?

Yes, I saw that re the aramid-reinforced sidewalls. But I think that's for the SUV version. Unfortunately the SUV version isn't available in my size of 225/55R17.

SUV All Weather on Well-Moderate Maintained FSRs?

Ah...makes sense. Are you ever concerned about sidewall punctures? From what I've learned so far, all-terrains generally have beefed up sidewalls to resist punctures and for additional traction (along the cross-section of the tire).

SUV All Weather on Well-Moderate Maintained FSRs?

Yeah it's me again; off-road newbie. Yes I've been peppering you guys with questions re rims tires etc. So thanks again in advance. The Nokian Outpost APT I've been wanting are out of stock in the entire north america it seems. My only other option is the Nitto Nomad Grappler (3-peak MSF) which...

Aftermarket Rim Center Bore and Offset Question

Yeah, for my car (a small SUV), I'm looking specifically at winter-biased all-terrain/off-road tires. There isn't a whole lot to choose from in 16" and 17". The Nitto and Nokian are a couple of the fewest (if not only) options out there for me.

Aftermarket Rim Center Bore and Offset Question

I think the uncertainty in this case would be the tread width of the stock OEMs (Goodyear Eagle Touring - 7.5") vs the other tires I'm considering. I am looking at either the Nitto Nomad Grappler or Nokian Outpost APT; neither of which I can get the tread widths for.

Aftermarket Rim Center Bore and Offset Question

I suppose I could do that. Although their alternative rim options are pretty ugly. So I was looking at aftermarket rims.

Aftermarket Rim Center Bore and Offset Question

Is hub centricity a big deal? I think I remember older cars where there was no such thing.

Aftermarket Rim Center Bore and Offset Question

Yeah, I explained the situation to my tire dude. He said that in the off-chance the rim does not fit (b/c of the bolt pattern or centre bore), they would exchange and work something out regarding restocking fees. But I guess at minimum, I'd prob need to mount these sans tires first when I get...

Aftermarket Rim Center Bore and Offset Question

    Stock set up is this: – Center Bore: 67.1 mm – PCD: 5x114.3 (5x4.5) – Wheel Fasteners: Lug nuts – Wheel Tightening Torque: 107 - 127 Nm – Thread Size: M12 x 1.5 – Trim Production: [2022 .. 2023] – 235/45R18, 7.5", ET52 New rims are this: – 17", 7.5" width – 42 mm off-set – 72.62 mm center bore...

Aftermarket Rim Center Bore and Offset Question

I'm getting 17" rims and off-roading tires to swap from the stock 235/45R18 on a 2023 Hyundai Kona N-Line (on order, not in possession). I'm concerned about the aftermarket rim's off-set (42 mm) and especially about the center bore of 72.62 mm. Would there be a problem fitting these onto my...

VERY Short Winter Trip on Summer Tires

Well, even hockey pucks eventually stop on ice.

VERY Short Winter Trip on Summer Tires

This was an absolute gem of a test. It shows that summers can be used in freezing temperatures as long as there's no snow or ice (i.e., dry salted pavement). But yeah, cracking could be an issue if overdone.

    All Terrain Width

Oh I see. So then 225/55R17 should be fine and that'll allow me the option of either the Nokians or Nittos (there are no 16" Grappler options).
  19. A

    All Terrain Width

A This is a great point, I never thought about that. I suppose the selection of width can't be generalized for dry terrain like it can for winters. That said, I'll be spending all of my off-road time on well-moderate-maintained forests service roads, in southwestern British Columbia.

    All Terrain Width

Stocks are grand touring on a 2022 Hyundai Kona. I'm considering the Nokian Outpost APT in either 235/45R18 or 225/55R17. The other choice is the Nitto Nomad Grappler in a 225/55R17. Location is Metro Vancouver, BC. I'll be using these for casual/occasional off-roading on well-moderate...
