Synthetic 5W-20 has no VMs? Amsoil cheaper?

Is is true that 5w-20 synthoil has no viscoity modifiers in it? Perhaps that explains why Amsoil's Signature 5W-20 is cheaper than 0W-20? Fewer additives?

HTHS vis spec trumps the Kinematic 100C vis spec'

I read this. I am confused. I see now why EV drivers say their cars are so, so much simpler to understand and maintain. (Well except for the battery which has a chemistry as complicated as oil chemistry.)

Why'd my brother's truck die at 100,000 miles?

UPDATE: My brother got rid of his new diesel truck that had replaced the dead one. He said something about "Ford diesels have a problem with EGR valves blowing-up and causing a $2000 repair job." So he traded his perfectly-working truck which cost $35,000 to the dealer for $20,000 in order to...

20,000 miles on Mobil Delvac 1

This car is now dead at ~80,000 miles. The engine seals stopped working, which caused the engine oil leaked into the pistons, and the engine ate its own oil until none was left. At least that's the explanation my mechanic gave me. (He then took the car off my hands & wiped-out the $500 I had...

20,000 miles on Mobil Delvac 1

Here is what the lab said: "Sometimes we have trouble finding things to talk about. Not so here! Metals read high, and we think that's primarily due to the long oil change. Average for this engine is 3400 miles, so you're going all out at 20,000 miles. Silicon was mildly high. This may show a...

20,000 miles on Mobil Delvac 1

Since the Plymouth is a gasser, it doesn't really matter what diesel oil I use. So this Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel is sold where? Pep Boys? Quote: Engineered to help extend engine life in modern turbo-charged diesel engines, Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck with SuperSyn meets the latest industry...

20,000 miles on Mobil Delvac 1

I decided to try an experiment and run my car (1987 Plymouth Caravelle) for 20,000 miles on the same oil. Of course I used the best oil I could find: Mobil Delvac 1 (synthetic/5W-40/diesel oil). I then got an oil analysis to see what kind of results I got, and I think it looks good: 4 quarts +...

Why'd my brother's truck die at 100,000 miles?

We'll probably never know because the engine was left behind at some country dealer & replaced with a new one. My brother has no clue other than it went "bang" and just died in the middle of the interstate. As for his new diesel: He's uses whatever the dealer gives him. He then looked-it-up...

Why'd my brother's truck die at 100,000 miles?

My brother's gasoline-powered truck blewup at 100,000 miles. He was towing a camper and driving from PA to North Dakota, doing about 65 he said, when the engine made a loud bang and died. He then spent $5000 buying a new engine. I keep asking him if he did anything "wrong" and he says not...
