So Amsoil OE == the old XL-7500?

The original XL-7500 was a true base iv synthetic. Sometime around 2003 is when they switched it to base iii. Originally Posted By: buster MaxLife is a syn blend Why on earth would I want to use an inferior synthetic-natural blend rather than the true OE synthetic for only 60 cents more?

    dexos-qualified Pennzoil synthetic?

VW actually tests the oil to make sure it passes (they want to make sure the camshafts are protected from the high pressure pumps). GM doesn't test the oil, but just verifies you are using 1 of 4 additive packs.

    dexos-qualified Pennzoil synthetic?

Yeah it's official. I'm surprised they didn't say somewhere "This is an official General Motors website," so we'd know it's the real thing and not some Nigerian owned scamsite. ;-) This also tells me it's safe to use Pennzoil Synthetic (though I don't understand why they don't have the green...

HTHS vis spec trumps the Kinematic 100C vis spec'

I just figured the viscosity of the oil is a bigger factor in Fuel economy than the oil shear between two metal surfaces. If I were picking an "ideal" oil I would want the thinnest 100C viscosity possible, but with high HTHS values to prevent wear.

HTHS vis spec trumps the Kinematic 100C vis spec'

" it was clarified that fuel economy is high even when the HTHS viscosity is in the ultra-low region of 2.1 mPa·s." It sounds like if you go too low with HTHS, metal on metal contact will decrease fuel economy. And that CCS viscosity matters more.

So Amsoil OE == the old XL-7500?

A full synthetic that is dexos-certified and less than 4 dollars? Find that hard to believe. Can I use the MaxLife in a brand new car?

Does it exist? I didn't see any at the walmart. Maybe I'll go with the Quaker State synthetic instead (it has the green dexos symbol on it).

    G-oil really is animal based.

So it's probably doing the same on the bottom of your oil sump.

I've been running XL-7500 oil. Did I hear correctly that Amsoil renamed it OE (original equipment)?
