Wow.......I never thought that the moly coating from pistons or rings would wear off at that kind of rate. Must be one heck of a thick coating. I learn something new everyday.

This might explain the moly question!
How many oil changes? history? Kind a lost me.
7500 miles on this change 1st time Amsoil interval?
27,621 miles on vehicle?
0-2000 miles on honda oil?
2000-27,621 miles on what?
1st run with amsoil? or multiple changes over 25,621 miles? and with what oils?
what filter?

I can't believe that there are still anti-20wt picketers. Stick with the 20wt. When you run out of amsoil, give the mobil1 a shot.

I already answered your questions:

And the interval was approximately 7500 each time, although sometimes as low as 6000 because of cross-country travel and/or other issues.

The Honda factory 0w-20 oil uses a ton of moly ...I'd be willing to bet the residual effect last through several oil changes ....having said that, I do think that Motorbike is correct. I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize you'd been using the Amsoil for 25,000 miles.

Given the low oxidation, nitration and lack of oil thickening, you could run 10,000 mile oil/filter changes with this 5w-20 in this engine....This is the API licensed, "SJ" formulation ....

Once this engine is no longer under warranty, I'd switch to the Series 2000, 0w-30 and double the drain interval, with a filter change only after 7500 miles. You should be able to drive the Fe and Pb levels down to almost nothing ....Fuel efficiency won't be as good with the much thicker, ACEA "A3/B4" rated S2000 oil, but wear protection will be even better. I've been seriously considering the Presis hybrid or VW TDI diesel and I'd use the Amsoil 0w-30 in those motors as well ....

And here I thought analysis was a waste of money. I learned all kinds of new stuff! I learned that piston rings include Moly, and I learned that Honda's break-in oil can show trace amounts even 25,000 miles after draining. Cool!

TooSlick: I thought you owned a TDI already? I saw your name on tdiclub.com. My interval will stay at 7500 miles as long as the warranty is in effect. Then I'll switch to 10,000 like my other cars (easy to remember... when the odometer rolls from 30,000 to 40,000=change the oil).

.

And I think I'll probably try SAE 10 oil soon. I consider my Insight to be my "experimental" car, not my long-term driver. The battery probably won't last beyond 200,000 miles.

Cool
I've been wondering how those 3-cylinder high stress engines were holding up in the funny-looking cars. Looks like they work just fine (except for the moly rubbing oil the pistons)(not good). The XL worked well too.

Interesting advice.
I thought 0w-20 or 5w-20 were determined to be safe to use.
