NEW 3/17/23, Quaker State Ultimate Protection FS w/20k mi or 1 yr guarantee

Well shoot... Pennzoil Platinum they offer 500,000 mile warranty. Are they more confident in that product? Or just trying to boost sales of Quaker State? Then again, there is no cash prize for trade in value on the Pennzoil warranty once you hit 300k miles

    Toyota Crown takes 0w8 oil

This /\ /\ /\ /\ exactly. Engineering/production of modern internal combustion engines is better than it has have EVER been. Especially Toyotas. But the main focus is on increasing fuel economy, especially in countries where there are large tax incentives to have higher fuel economy like the US...

    Toyota Crown takes 0w8 oil

They told me the same thing about my VVTI valve. I run 30 weight instead of 20.. i have a friend who runs 40 weight in the same Toyota engine... zero problems. In fact its indicated as being able to use up to 50 weight in the Australian owners manual for my Corolla.

    Toyota Crown takes 0w8 oil

it might only be in certain regions like they normally do... I regularly visit the Toyota Australia website and other countries Toyota websites to check out multiple owners manuals for the same vehicle, each from a different region of the world.

Red Line/Ester based oils for engine cleaning?

Not saying this is a good idea... but.... Stihl Ultra 2 stroke oil contains 80% TMP Ester according to the MSDS.... Extremely concentrated, but with another 20% additive package of who knows what... I personally use Marvel Mystery Oil, Redline, and then Rislone for solvents (MMO has Naphthenic...

    IVDs and oils with ANs/Esters

According to my research, the following two products to obtain esters and AN's (which i also just so happen to be using myself for cleaning purposes) ---Marvel Mystery Oil - contains 74% Naphthenic Base Oils (I think these would qualify as Alkylated Naphthalene's ("AN's")) according to my...

    MMO synthetic

Regular MMO I have found info online saying it contains the following two main ingredients (plus a some anti wear additives in small amounts that I don't have the details on).. I think this specific info was from the NTSB which analyzed and published the analysis of the Marvel Mystery Oil...

    Toyota Crown takes 0w8 oil

People can say what they want.. Regarding Toyotas specifically, I know Toyota's used to be lasting 300-500k miles... now with the 0W-20 people seem to be burning oil, or worse at 200k miles. Sure they still last a long time, but i think it is hard to argue against the fact that Toyota is now...

Check out my magnets on my oil filter

Thank you , I will check that out. Yeah I am trying to copy the filter mag. Its alot of surface area, but very expensive.

Check out my magnets on my oil filter

My thoughts were this would provide more surface area than a magnetic drain plug, but I might add a magnetic drain plug as well

Check out my magnets on my oil filter

Ready for people to check out my magnet setup. Let me know what you think about the practicality of this helping anything... My theory is that they will catch micro particles under 20um that the oil filter will not catch. Yes my engine block is aluminum and pistons aluminum obviously... so not...

Fram Ultra… did they switch back to wire screen backed media or did I buy old stock? XG4386

One thing that worries me about the new style Fram Ultra's is that the lack of the metal screen will mean a lower shelf lifetime for the filter before it loses structural integrity. This last year up until now I have been successfully running Fram Xtended Guard (Fram's flagship prior to the...

Which do you prefer? Holes? Louvers? Be prepared for your mind to be blown..... A Third Option!

I prefer the louvers as I feel it offers a more even spread of to the oil flow, although I do like the holes so I can more easily see the media underneath. But either holes or louvers is OK by my standards. The style I do not care for, is the nylon cage. I understand plastic is made from oil...

Fram Ultra… did they switch back to wire screen backed media or did I buy old stock? XG4386

Wooooohoooo!! 12 OG 6 new Not bad, I’ll take it! Seems like Advance Auto has plenty of old stock, the Titanium are more expensive and seem to not sell as fast as Rock Auto moves these. 2022 XG4386 - All mine are Wire backed 2023 XG4386 - All mine are new type But as for all the regular...

Fram Ultra… did they switch back to wire screen backed media or did I buy old stock? XG4386

Yeah I was very hesitant about them, but the quality is phenominal. So they at least have that going for them. Now.. the performance of the media? Who knows. The thing that scares me is the old ones performing so much better than everything else on the market, that Fram decided they could make...

Fram Ultra… did they switch back to wire screen backed media or did I buy old stock? XG4386

Old metal backed 2022 on the left.. new style 2023 on the right. Yeah I was looking at the cellulose backing. I suspect they are using these small louver/slits in the metal to better hold the filter media since the wire backing is gone, but that is just speculation. It might be something else...

Fram Ultra… did they switch back to wire screen backed media or did I buy old stock? XG4386

I might have been wrong it might be the fact I am looking at it backwards because I am looking down the center tube, which is the output… so I am probably looking at the cellulose backing. It’s hard to see through the small slits… When I get home tonight, I am going to shine a bright flashlight...

Fram Ultra… did they switch back to wire screen backed media or did I buy old stock? XG4386

Well karma just came back and bit me for buying up all the wire backed ones. I just got six of XG4386 with Louvers and new media :( :( :( I have another order of 20 filters on the way from another Rock Auto warehouse which are probably the same thing. Well what can you do but just laugh, I...
