Engine assembly lube on manual trans build

I do the same. The only time I need an assembly type heavy grease is when I rebuild old Muncies (M20/21/22), The cluster gear needs to be packed with the needle bearings, in that case I just use a small as possible dollop of chassis or wheel bearing grease smeared all over the needles to make...

How easy is your oil filter access?

2017 Tacoma - I'd rate it fair. I have to remove a skid plate. After that is done, it is easy. This vehicle is a cartridge style filter. I use a torque wrench and have a dedicated oil filter wrench sized for the housing so no issues removing the cartridge housing each time. I do not need to jack...

Anyone else watch Two Guys Garage on Motortrend? Noticed this...

Lots of creative pronunciations out there as well... "dex-a-tron" ... dex-i-tron" etc.

Thickest or thinnest oil you have used in winter

I used 10w30 (mostly) and 5w30 (occasionally) in my daily driver muscle cars "back in the day" for hard winter use (some -35F days where I grew up). By the mid 80's my cars were becoming collector / rare / special cars so I didn't drive them in the winter anymore. I used 5w30 in my regular...

How do you prepare your auto for a road trip?

1 - Tire Pressure. 2 - Check the spare tire pressure, I am bad on this regularly, I rarely check it except before big trips. 3 - Fresh oil and oil filter only if I'll go significantly over the mileage on the trip.

    Ones that got away...

Not yet, search is ongoing. It has been difficult, to say the least, recently. If you, or anyone else on this thread, knows of any 1970 GS455/GSX cars that may be for sale PM me. Just an up front note, only premium upper echelon candidates, no junk or over-restored cars. Most of the cars in my...

    Ones that got away...

Agreed, I just recently sold my LS6 so I could finance the dream Buick (1970 GSX) for me. This will likely be my last muscle car, so I want to get the right one. To this day, I still miss my 68 GS400 the most.

    Ones that got away...

Three in particular, bear in mind when I was a kid buying these cars they were a dime a dozen and cheap, I never thought that would change: 1 - 1969 Barracuda 340S with automatic transmission, I was 16 working in a tire shop, this car came in frequently. When the owner decided to sell, he...

Health Insurance for Canadians Visiting the U.S.

I use these guys. My entire coverage for a multi trip year for me and my wife is barely more than what your family member has been quoted so check RBC out. Granted we are in our 50's so it will be different. https://www.rbcinsurance.com/travel-insurance/index.html Like most insurance, I never...

What was your (reasonable) dream car as a teen?

1968 GTO - There was a muscle car book in my Jr. High library and inside was a color photo of a Verdoro Green 1968 GTO. That was the car I wanted to get when I was old enough to drive. I didn't get the GTO at first, the first muscle car I ended up with was a 1968 Buick GS400, which to date of...

How often to you upgrade Cell phones

Run to fail. Current phone is 4 years old and, knock on wood, shows no signs of any problems. I have owned 4 cell phones (including the current one) since 1998.

Was this clutch Needing Replacement? Photos

Impressive, you are clearly easy on your machinery and that is the nicest 100k clutch I have ever seen. However, I had a similar policy with my former manual transmission cars and always put a new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing in whenever the transmission and engine...

    What's Your Favorite Performance Muffler

Some (not all) of this may be obsolete as it is 40 years old but here are all the mufflers I have used (all American V8 muscle car applications) and some notes: 1) Generic chain exhaust shop "turbo" mufflers - cheap, came with a decent lifetime warranty back in the day, I did not enjoy the...

Dead Horse Point, Utah - panorama

Nice photographic work. We did a pretty comprehensive tour of Utah many years ago in 1999 with our K1500 Z71 Silverado, taking in Moab, Dead Horse Point, Valley of the Gods, Arches NP and Bryce Canyon, spectacular scenery, highly recommended.

How do you regularly track a mutual fund?

The app I use on my phone to track is Webull. It has most ETFs and MFs available to track in addition to, of course, stocks on all the major NA indices.

    5w30 or 10w30 to replace SAE30

Pull starts are significantly easier with 5w30 / 10w30 over straight 30. I currently am using left over (new) T5 10w30 in my pull start OPE's but have used 5w30 and 0w30 (when I have had it available in my stash).
