    Watched a documentary on OceanGate

I got heavily rabbit holed after it happened, and there were just so many "NO"s yelling in my head at every new piece on information. Day one as soon as they mentioned carbon fibre construction, with titanium vessel ends, told my wife that it collapsed like a dented coke can....then a few weeks...

Solar eating its own lunch in ERCOT

I would agree.... we just had one of those "e" things down here, and the incumbents are fixated on intermiittents. This week (funnilly they were silent pre "e") the googles and microsponges have come out and stated that they can't expand data centre capabilities on intermittents, and will...

Solar eating its own lunch in ERCOT

take a business card slice of the average nuclear power station, it will take two business card slices to have a coal station and mines. Do it with replaceables (20 year lifecycle) and it's about 7 square metres to HARVEST the same energy....but that doesn't come at the times you want it, so...

U.S. labs find undocumented cellular radios in Chinese inverters and battery packs

No, wasn't preloaded...they relied on human nature to put USB drives in slots, either with intent, or accidentally.

U.S. labs find undocumented cellular radios in Chinese inverters and battery packs

I know a place where the chinese inverters are being hand over fist. If the grid companies can shut down your AC (but they only will on a really hot day when the grid is stretched), someone can shut down the grid for a couple days, and then step ff the boat. But wait...there's more...

U.S. labs find undocumented cellular radios in Chinese inverters and battery packs

That was a perfectly crafted virus...by global national entities...made the operators think that everything was AOK, while they oversped the equipment...amazing, and no remote control.

Wyoming geothermal could provide 10 percent of the national electric needs?

There's scientist...and engineers Scientists say "could", Engineers have to turn things into cost effective paractical reality. I'm on a trend now with the idjits claiming 90% lus for sand storage...it moderate temperature, so, in the 20s to 30% efficiency rate...not 90%. The comeback is that...

    GE's Hydrogen Calculator

I agree...the power stations in my state all had 40 tonnes of anhydrous liquid ammonia stored on site. I got rid of it from two stations, replacing it with 30% aqueous. Possibility with anhydrous was not just wiping out the site, but neighbouring towns...and that was 40 tonnes, not what's being...

    GE's Hydrogen Calculator

My heart sinks, and the Gods of Entropy smile when a politician talks about hydrogen. When 9Kg of water to produce 1Kg hydrogen gets explained away as "the science is getting better, that will be improved"...I just shut down. One of my first jobs 32 years ago was to build and commission a...

Three Mile Island's Revolutionary Restart in 2028

Yep...look at the only country in the world that has 30% of the Uranium, a swag of Thorium ... and a blanket ban on Nuclear. Deindustrialisation is the only option...

    Broken ribs

Had them a couple... About 30ish years ago, was down the coast on a body board, in REALLY shallow water...wave broke over me, bord dug into the sand, and I stopped instantly ... 4, two each side. Nevertheless, the holiday house my parents booked needed my brother and I to carry my sister and...

Major power grid issues in Portugal, Spain and parts of France

Basically the grid acted (as it does) like a torsion bar....the synchronous machines we clearly not capable of damping that much energy. I'm questioning how grid following inverters respond to stuff like that....I'm also questioning whether grid forming inverters can introduce another frequency.

    Office Chair Explosions?

There have been people impaled...i think it's less explosion than the seat base fatigue failing and the base and occupant dropping onto the ram

    Latest on renewables in California

It's a silly three card trickpulled by states and countries that want to sound greener and more impressive than they are. South Australia did it, bragging they could run the state on reneabels ... but it was nett ... they still had synchronpus machines maintaining stability, then relied on...
