1911 failure to feed last round

Last round failure to feed issues are usually the follower in the mag. It is letting the nose dive. Sometimes you can fix it by turning the spring around or stretching it a bit. If it is an L shaped follower make sure the leg is not bent, if it is a solid block type make sure there are no burrs...

Should I get a Extended Warranty?

Does it still have any of the 10 year warranty left, were there any extended warranties from the factory for known defects. I would look into a factory extended time warranty but have a hard time recommending any 3rd party service contract. I would rather put whatever the 3rd party charges for...

Any of you 1911 guys tell me what happened here?

That should not be able to happen unless a coil collapsed. Faulty spring or it picked up a kink when installing, if it happened with a quality spring I would get a full length guide rod. If you shoot 230 ball stay with an 18#, if you shoot +p go with a 20# and if you reload softball 200 gr SWC...

Why not use Valvoline R&P as the "forever oil"?

The unknown chemical and its reaction in mist or evaporated form to extreme temps without constant flow to wash it clean. It may be unlikely but without some tests it is still possible and I dont have a desire to be the guinea pig. This and the fact that they are not saying anything about GDI...

Why not use Valvoline R&P as the "forever oil"?

I know its mostly for keeping the rings clean which seems like a good idea with the low tension rings in modern engines but I wonder if using it from new could help prevent intake valve deposits on GDI motors. On the other hand without testing it may end up being worse without knowing what is...

New tub/shower enclosure estimates - wow!

I really appreciate this thread as I have been thinking about having my master tub replaced with a walk in shower. I had an idea that it would be very expensive but this is a real shock. I guess I will call my brother and and see if I can bribe him with a few steaks to come help me 1 weekend.

Joann Fabric Closing - How Will it Affect You and Yours

I use to go in once in a while, they were the only ones that had a high density foam for cushions and a marine grade vinyl, but the selection was getting very thin the last time and I had to go to the web.

Are the low inventory issues from 2022 over with?

I have been shopping base Rav4's and Mazda CX5's. Only 1 or 2 Ravs on the lot and marked up 1k over MSRP, the Mazda dealer has 20 or 30 and gave me 3k off MSRP just talking on the phone. I walked out of the Toyota dealer, no matter how much I might want 1 I dont pay over or even MSRP. The Mazda...

Rollback of CAFE Reported by Doug Burgum

CAFE should give weight to the longevity of the vehicle. Not needing to scrap 1 to built another has to improve air quality. I also always felt the total pollution produced to manufacture a vehicle should be a factor. If the pollution produced to make it is greater than the pollution saved...

    charging a 24v system

There is no way to connect a 24v charger to 4 separate 6v batteries. The problem with charging series batteries is the same as old Christmas lights that were in series. If one burns out the others dont get any power but worse is if one shorts out the other 3 will get 8v instead of 6v. This could...

Take a chance on putting an impact on this fastener?

Clean it off with a wire brush and find a socket that fits as tight as possible, SAE or Metric. If nothing fits tight put a piece of paper over it and drive the tightest socket on with a small hammer then use the impact driver.

    Neglected muzzleloader

Its a round ball shooter and its never going to be very accurate with that much pitting. It will cut your patches up just seating the ball. If you check around there are still Smiths that will bore and rifle it for 50 cal. If you really want to shoot that one take the barrel out of the stock and...

Extended range of garage door opener

Try running the tail end vertically and see if it extends your range. I did the same thing with mine and now I can open the door from my mailbox which is 275 ft away. I think before my aluminum door was blocking the signal and I had to be within 25 or 30 ft. Now the door is all the way up by the...

forgot to cancel a couple property tax exemptions after moving?

I dont have an answer to your question but having dealt with the state in the past I found that when you make an inquiry about taxes its best to do it in writing and with a certified letter. It can take a very long time to get an answer and if they decide you own interest and penalties you need...

    Honda and Nissan to Merge?

Just curious but is Nissan a small player around the world. I know sometimes the vehicles that are not popular in the US because of restrictions or price do most of their business elsewhere in a stripped down version.

    Lawn Mower Lift

I found the ramps always block the deck when I get it up high enough, I found a guy on You tube that built ramps from 2x8' and had the ramp part hinged so once you got the wheels on the top you could swing the ramp out of the way. It works great on the truck too, I dont have to try and get...

How Much To Dicker Down on Price

If you really like it and other than the belt and plugs everything else is in good shape you can use the service as a bargaining chip. If they are a Honda dealer they may do the service for the cost of parts if not it does give you some leverage on the price. It is an interference engine so it...

Could the heater core be shot?

You may just have air in the heater core. If you dont have a bleeder you could try parking on a steep hill with the front end up to get the radiator higher than the core or jack the front up. Run the motor with the cap loose on the first catch and keep an eye on the coolant level.
