Something like that 😂. I usually place one RockAuto order a year, so about 11 filters. Just happened to place an extra order this year and got some CarQuest Premiums and then a new car as well. I service 3 cars, a mower, and a jetski. About 36-42k miles a year across the three cars, so 3 filters...
Are we talking strictly oil or oil and oil filters?
I have 17 oil filters, 6 QTs of Valvoline EP, 4 quarts of Valvoline Maxlife, 4 QTs of Rotella T6, 1 QT of Ultra Platinum, 1 Quart of Dexron VI and 3 QTs of R&P.
I'm surprised to see a silicone ADBV on these Protec jobber filters. I've ran the WIX WL10290 for a few years now with no problem, will cut one open whenever I do the next oil change on my Spark. Looks like a much better made M+H filter in comparison to the Microgard you just posted.
From seeing all of your other posts, I completely agree. After the past few WIX/Protec you've posted, I'm very happy I'm slowly transitioning out of WIX and into PG filters. I wouldn't even be comfortable running this filter on a 20 y/o mower.
Wow, that looks horrible. I don’t think I’ve seen one look like that. Louvres make it look non PG made. Who do you think made it?
As always, thanks for the pics!
I’ve had many Briggs and never any issues. Others have had Briggs and a ton of issues.
I think it comes down to, treat it right and it’ll treat you right. Change the oil early and often and put on a nice new filter. Change the fuel filter every year and run good fuel. Change the spark plugs...
Premium Guard Extended Life.
Also called: Microgard Select, STP XL, Parts Plus EX, Carquest Premium and a few others.
Fantastic build quality, silicone ADBV and gasket, very good filtration.
Edit: checkout RockAuto under various manufacturer to see deals on these as well.
I thought the same exact thing about the spark I service. Its filter is bigger than my jetski and my Camry. It’s a little 1.4L and takes like 4.5 quarts of oil. I thought I received the wrong filters when I put in an order just due to the shear size.
I’ve used WIX 51056, WIX 51348, NAPA Proformer 21348, and now CarQuest 85516. Sizing goes 51056 < 51348 = 21348 < 85516
They cross over to a couples cars on RA for cataloging. 2006 Mazda Miata, 2009 Mazda CX9 for the 51348 and 85516, respectively.
Update on the closeout filters: Looks like 1 of the 8 arrived with a small dent in the middle of the can. Box was fine, however. Seems as though the advanced auto that RA probably bought it from had the filter dropped by a customer. You win some and lose some.
