Advice on what to do about a technician who stripped my spark plugs into the head

I didn't see anything making it 100% clear, but it does seem probable, because if doing it by hand, it would have been far more obvious how much force was needed and to stop before causing this much damage, while with an impact wrench or driver, just pull the trigger and it gets full torque...

What's the deal with shorter battery warranties and higher costs?!

I'm not sure if my post was the one you meant to quote, but ironically it's sometimes the opposite, that their goal isn't optimal battery health. In order to eek out, maybe 3% MPG fuel economy improvement, some newer vehicles have their alternator mostly charging when they decelerate, and a set...

What's the deal with shorter battery warranties and higher costs?!

Similar happened in the US, the two lowest cost sellers of common size automotive batteries, Walmart and Costco, dropped the 5 year on their premium flooded lead acid batteries, down to 3 years and the price went up, but not that much depending on what span of time you're talking about, price...

2010 Fusion 3.5 fuel injector question

I'd measure again, but sure seems like #5 is bad and needs replaced. If you were measuring from the back of the connector, then I'd take connector off and direct measure injector. Techron might clean it out a bit but won't electrically repair an injector.

Drilling rear strut towers with a hole saw

I don't understand why the topic has gone on, without first removing that cover plate to see what is behind it. If the cover plate only has 3-4 fasteners as it appears to, then couldn't you just remove it to drill the hole on the metal behind it, and later remove it to do the shock...

How common are torn boots on suspension components?

How old is the vehicle? Besides installation damage, I'd also wonder if it was very old stock so the boot had been breaking down while sitting on a shelf for years, especially if made in China. Too many times I've seen Chinese made rubber that seemed to prematurely break down. When the boot...

Flex pipe broke near the muffler inlet

Muffler pipe looks pretty crusty, I'd replace the muffler and flex pipe. As others have stated, take it to a muffler shop where they can probably fix you up for around $250 or a little more for a stainless muffler is worthwhile considering existing rust.

ShinEtsu Silicone Grease, the best in the game!

All thick paste silicone greases are worthwhile for the apps they are good at. I bought another tub of Raybestos DBL-2T after my last tube of it ran out. So many uses, just not so much metal on metal unless you have certain rubber formulations involved that can't tolerate petroleum based...

Is *THIS* a proper method for replacing brake calipers without the need to bleed brakes?

Might as well try it, then if it doesn't work, time to bleed the brakes which I would plan on doing anyway. The only thing I could call universally "proper" is bleeding them, but then there are some improper things that can still work, like not using a tool to cycle ABS, just taking it out on...

    Gambling with non-OEM brake pads?

I'd get Duralast Gold, because they'd be a free replacement from the first time I bought them for same vehicle, and no bad experiences using them.

Ball Joints - school me / help choose.

How so? You have to gain access to it either way, then easily measured, and anything I can do sitting in front of a computer is not much trouble compared to actually doing the work. Who stated they were 15 years old? Maybe, but a lot of complaints are that they didn't last anywhere near that...

Ball Joints - school me / help choose.

Energy Suspension/Protane sells some. They're also on Amazon, Summit Racing et al. under various brands. The trick is figuring out dimensions. Some sellers state them and some don't. Some sellers have a "fits these vehicles" feature like a few auto parts stores including Autozone. Would I...

Ball Joints - school me / help choose.

It's not so much the sort of person as it is whether the roads you must travel are riddled with potholes, and then you're going to hit them. Swerve around one and you just hit a different one, and look drunk doing so. I was in that boat till a feeder road to my home was repaved. They weren't...

Ball Joints - school me / help choose.

When the boot fails, if you don't notice right away, grime probably got inside. With a greaseable BJ you can much more easily attempt to flush that dirty grease out and re-boot the BJ. Plus with a non-greaseable, if it used a silicone grease, you can't even flush it out by agitating it in a...

Ball Joints - school me / help choose.

Two words: Pot holes Metal on metal BJs hold up better to impacts. Yes they need greased every once in a while, but some people have the false believe that they need greased with every oil change, while it's more like every few years unless the boot leaks and if it does, you can't remedy that...

    Iridium vs Ruthenium spark plugs

So you don't run standard resistive spark plug wires in your semi-modern vehicles, and destroy your radio reception and risk other electronic glitches due to that lack of noise suppression from the ignition system? Factory spark plug wires add a lot more resistance than the minimal difference...

Having a key cut by a dealer

If an unprogrammed key would start the truck, then the PATS security would be useless, anyone could use the old school method of just sticking a screwdriver in the ignition cylinder to pop it. Even if it had keyless push button start, you'd still need to program the keyhead or fob into the...

Letting Dealer do Air Filter change?

I'm surprised that they only want $50 including the filter. The potential problem is going to be if they want to do it the quickest way they think is possible, only un-doing the filter box screws, instead of also disconnecting that now-stiff snorkel from the air box, pushing it backwards...

Low fuel pressure = starting problem?

I'm in disagreement with others. In some cases fuel injectors can dribble fuel out instead of a fine mist if the pressure is too low, not allowing starting. This could come in combination with a little varnish buildup in the injectors, so I might put some Techron in the next tank of gas, and...
