    2023 Civic Type R 5800 mile OCI

Because that's Honda's recommendation...and if you'll watch the Insolubles % on UOA's, you'll see they stay down...and even drop on the second OCI that a filter stays in. Why change it if it's doing the job it's designed to do?

What is considered as 'Optimal' engine oil temperature... ?

Many don't "get it": that there's not a large difference in operating temps as long as ambient temps are not below freezing. Whether 75 degrees or 110 degrees outside...your engine and transmission temps don't vary degree-for-degree. Go up into the mountains where the air molecules are further...

    Techron, Top Tier, Oil Changes

Agreed. Why let potential buildup progress to the point to need a strong(er) treatment than simply running Top Tier all the time? Avoid the buildup. What worked in the good-old-days may not suffice for today's much more finicky high pressure fuel pumps, etc.

    Oil for B58 Ineos Grenadier

Watching oil temps recently surprised me. Oil didn't get hot until the car was running over 70 mph for about 10 minutes...this was AFTER the engine was "warm". Starting a cold engine and running it 5 minutes is not sufficient.

2 Valvoline Restore & Protect tests

I chose HPL due to Dave's personal interaction with many of the BITOGers, the highly esteemed Dr. Rudnick's link with HPL, and the reports made from previous and current customers. In short, I believe that they have a product that is as good as is available in the marketplace. I chose No VII...

Order form indicates PC 5w20 no VII. So I didn't remember correctly when I said 0w20 in my earlier post. Sorry about that!

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

I used to mix oils fairly often, until I realized that using a high-quality Fully Formulated Oil is more important than any of my under-educated guesses. Looking at the VOA's of many oils, there are more than a couple of ways to make a good-performing end product. I simply don't know enough to...

    What filter can't go 10K?

I had a 2008 Grand Marquis that I ran for 3 x 5000 mile intervals without changing the oil filter (it was a standard Motorcraft). I did UOA's on all three oil changes, and the Insoluables dropped every time. Insoluables are the large-enough-to-be-captured-by-the-filter particles. So, it appeared...

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

HPL fully formulated oil has higher cleaning abilities than the HPL EC. HPL EC is to VERY GENTLY begin the cleaning before going to the fully formulated HPL oils.

2 Valvoline Restore & Protect tests

I have a 2014 Accord 2.4 Earthdreams engine and oil was always changed at 15% remaining on the Maintenance-Minder...mileage was usually in the high 8000's at 15% life remaining. It gradually consumed a bit of oil as it hit 100,000 miles....about a quart every 5000 miles, maybe a little less...

What is considered as 'Optimal' engine oil temperature... ?

I wondered how much cooler the oil would be in Sport Mode. 30 degrees is significant! I run mine in Sport at times that I'm heavy-footed, I figure when it's using its entire 300 horses its not a bad idea to let it run a little cooler. But usually I tool around in the Mid-mode. I understand the...

What is considered as 'Optimal' engine oil temperature... ?

2.5 L Subaru boxer 2024 Forester runs at a reported oil temp of 214-221 F on the highway at 65-75 mph. Slow to traffic speed off highway and the temp drops to sub 214, even idling in 90+ degree heat with A/C on. So it's the higher fuel-burning situations that heat this oil up to a good, warm...

    MPG vs UOA

"Oil degradation" is not equivalent to "increased friction". Perhaps you over-estimate the MPG effects of Anti-wear, Anti-friction additives in virgin oil compared to a fuel-diluted (and therefore lower-viscosity) oil. I've turned over by hand countless engines...and there is oh-so-little...

    MPG vs UOA

As a kid in the early 1980's I had a Tercel with a tiny 4 cylinder engine. I always tracked and GRAPHED MPG! I was surprised when I noticed my graph-paper generated MPG line always ticked slightly DOWN whenever I changed the oil. Like you, I expected MPG would go up...new oil and new lubrication...

    MPG vs UOA

Look at the viscosity decreases in oil subjected to dilution with Fuel. Viscosity decreases. Decreased viscosity would theoretically increase MPG, although miniscule to the point it requires very controlled lab-like environments to do so.

Tuned turbo engine - Do I need a higher performance oil?

The thing that stuck out to me was referring to LiquiMoly as a boutique oil. It's not. It's just average, with a lot of marketing behind it. I do think you are on the right track when you post your oil temperature. Temperature affects oil viscosity, which affects MOFT. But very important may be...

    Sodium detergent and LSPI

It would be interesting to learn if this has been verified to occur in a non-boosted engine...I don't recall any reports of such. (Although "verified" is too strict of a word, the evidence is, at best, circumstantial...verification wouldn't technically be possible)

    High Performance Lubricants PCMO Series

Because the EC30 is a bit more gentle...in case you have a real problem in your engine cleanliness. Cleaning too suddenly is, by definition, too fast...it can overwhelm the filtering system. BrendanC beat me to the answer!
