An old MPG gizmo I found, the Elektro-Karb "sonic fuel vaporizer."

I like the little adjustment screw on the bottom. It looks like a variable resistor..... Obviouslly if you don't see a significant increase in MPG you need to fine-tune it a little more with that screw.

Dead deer in back yard - disposal is a pain

Does anyone know how long it's been there? It might be full of maggots.....

    Post your seasonal tire change!

I've been through three (?) sets of Dunlop Wintersports on my Cobalt. I drive a lot, especially in the winter. I wish those steel wheels were still as pristine as in this picture! I have Blizzaks for my Honda Fit. They were the only kind I could get without special ordering.

    Regular vs Premium Gas Pricing

The good people of DuPage County IL are still filling their high-end SUVs with Premium, if what I see on the pump screen is correct, before inserting my card.

La Quinta Inns: OK place to stay for a night?

I've only stayed at a LQ once, and it was one of the fancier places I've ever stayed. Your experiences may vary. I did wind up signing up for their rewards club but never stayed at a LQ again and my points expired. Whatever happened to Atikovi? I am sure he knows a place in Tulare for just...

    Route 66 Roy's sign and a volcano.

I like that whole stretch of Rt. 66. I've been there a few times - as recently as a couple weeks ago (for the east end from Needles to Essex). West of Essex the road is blocked at some point but I was in Amboy as recently as 2016... I had that picture as the background on my work computer...

Just had a Lowe’s deny sale of filters

Reminds me of how the local Chicago-area Pep Boys stores liked to refuse the coupons that came in the Sunday Chicago Tribune....

New to me 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport S

Were the 21s affected by the door-hinge corrosion issue? The steel hinge and the aluminum doors (and hood and tailgate) react badly and create aluminum oxide "rust" which bubbles the paint and causes white flaky corrosion to appear. My brother has (I think) a '19 and he has had his "fixed"...

Chain restaurant price increase chart from Finance Buzz

The various locally-owned non-chain places near me have definitely not kept up with that kind of pace; the burger place and the pizza place in particular (both been here since about 1970) are still quite reasonable. There are various Mexican and Chinese places that are reasonable also. The...

Oil filters on Amazon for Subaru Crosstrek

How about the black Tokyo-Roki filter like what most likely came on the car from the factory? That's what I use on my WRX (well, a shorter one that fits under the WRX hood - the one in my link is for the Crosstrek)...

Restaurant "Price and participation may vary"

I was going to mention Subway also. Some locations have their own signs prominently posted that they do not accept coupons, or that they don't do the $5 footlong deal. Raising their prices to nearly triple what they were a few years ago sealed the deal for me. I love Subway, but almost...

Looking for a car for my 16yr old

Times sure have changed! I am convinced my parents wanted me in the most unreliable, most unsafe vehicle they could find. I had a Nova with rusted-out floors, no brake lights and turn signals that did not flash. It had been my grandma's, and she only parted with it because she had become...

Not sure if previous owner used synthetic oil or regular

And besides all that, have you shopped for regular dino oil lately? There's aren't a lot of choices any more. I use regular oil in two of my cars and I had to order from Amazon to get the brand I want.

    More crazy neighbor stories

Is that really what you think non-HOA neighborhoods look like? Or are you just cherry-picking the bad ones? Kind of like when the media picks the bad ones from among 370,000 good HOAs. Maybe the South is more rural and impoverished than I thought?

    Frustrating Dealer Experience

It was a delayed response to the other thread where a guy got his car back from an oil service at the dealer, and his car was covered with swirl marks from the dealer's own wash rack. Whatever; back to your regularly scheduled program.

    Frustrating Dealer Experience

Too often, the complimentary first oil change at the dealer comes with a complimentary car wash and swirl mark application also.

    Opinion article- Landfill economy

I probably shouldn't complain about my microwave; it dates back to 1984 which was when my parents remodeled their kitchen. It's a GE made in Appliance Park, Louisville KY. Still works good, knock on wood!

GM 2.4 timing chain gone amok! (and repair)

+2 I have that engine in my Cobalt (same year also) and given my usual BITOG-style maintenance regimen, it purrs like a kitten and is spotless inside. 288K miles.

    Gambling with non-OEM brake pads?

I've been using Wagner "OEX" pads recently on a couple cars and they've been great. Bought 'em on a whim because they were on clearance at RA. Box was clearly "new old stock" and was marked Made in USA. The pads worked so well I bought another set to sit on the shelf until then.... And the...
