    17 Civic 1.5T, 58K on odo, PP 5W30, 7,382 OCI

I meant to change at 6K but my daughter is always on the move, racking up the miles, to the tune of more than 2K per month.... oh to be 23 again... sigh After all the fuss about dilution, and rising oil levels because of fuel in the oil, this little Civic seems to be unfazed at this point...

    22 Toyota GR86, Factory Fill, 785 miles

New addition to the family. Son headed off to college so I decided to get in a first oil change before he left. Didn't have any expectations other than higher than usual wear metals and silicone. Of course this engine has been in the news recently with the potential of excessive RTV clogging the...

Penn Plat 5W30, 7,580 miles on oil, 2017 Civic 1.5T

Maybe I did pick up a jug of Euro L... who knows, but I doubt I would have missed noting that tidbit of info in my oil change notes. But as they say, the proof is in the pudding... and this looks like Euro L pudding right? 🙂 I know there's the PP dexos in there right now, so I guess we'll see...

I don't think it was Euro L. I remember looking for Euro L in Wally World but could not find the weight I wanted. That jug from the fill is long gone but I doubt it was a Euro L oil, because I would have at least bought 2 jugs. All I have in my garage are a few of these:

The Civic's been getting a little more mileage now, about 2K per month, so I missed my intended interval at 6K. Looks like the 7,500 mile interval is just as boring as a 6K ODI. Although Blackstone suggests a 10K interval, my intention is to stick with 6K. Silicone is still on the high side...

    Pennz Plat 5W30, 6,606 miles, 2017 Civic 1.5T

I thought this was interesting as well. Maybe I'll do 5K on this fill and switch back to 0W20 for another 5-6K.

Here's the latest UOA. Although the specs call for 0W20, I've been using 5W30 these last 2 fills. As expected with this engine, there's slight fuel dilution occuring but in most folks' opinion, it's not significant enough to alter anything drastically with the interval. Silicon remains a touch...

    Pennz Plat 0W20, 9,097 miles, 2018 Lexus GS350

I sold my last Toyota after 19 years and 340K miles. At this rate I'll have this car for another 27 years if I'm to hit 300K. The rest of the car will likely fall apart before this engine gives out.

I did wake up this morning with an oil question in my head... The viscosity and flashpoint increased between the 6K and the 9K UOAs, that seems odd to me. What could have caused this? Maybe there was fuel present at the 6K UOA that burned off over the next 2,800 miles? Any ideas?

    Pennz Plat 0W20, 9,097 miles, 2018 Lexus GS350

Lexus recommends a 10K ODI, not sure what interval the Univ Avgs are based on. My hope is that the relatively higher wear is due to breaking in and residual particle count still remaining in the engine, I hope to see lower wear as time goes by. Please note: the last 2 UOAs were done on the...

I googled the filter part# and looked at the replacement part guides in the store aisle and they both reflected the filters I bought... then I went to the counter and apparently there's 2 filters for this engines... a longer one for the AWD model and a shorter one for RWD... only the longer...

    Pennz Plat 0W20, 9,097 miles, 2018 Lexus GS350

Good evening oilheads. Here are my lastest results. This fill of PP 0W20 is the same oil from the last UOA plus another 2,800 miles or so. Took the sample via a fumoto valve after draining about 1.5 qts. Although I did refill with PP 0W20 again, I'm leaning towards a Pennzoil Euro for the next...

Looks much better than the last UOA. Took the sample using the Blackstone vacuum pump. Plan on running this fill to 10K, it's what Lexus recommends. Any reason I shouldn't?

That was thought process as well, the 0W20 did seem to fare a tad better. Thinking of going the Euro route though.

Been a Pennz fanboy for just about forever, then jumped on the Valvoline HM bandwagon... but I've never been an M1 fan, always thought it was overpriced and never worked well in my Infiniti 3.5 V6. But I guess it's time to start reading some threads here and pick something new.

Getting some history on this engine now. Still a boring UOA so that's a good thing. Silicon - a little high but the air filter has never been changed and the seal is still tight, I doubt any dirt is getting in. But I might still change the air filter, it's been 36K miles and almost 4 years...
