Does engine oil need to break-in after an OCI?

I have read probably some of the same articles. Wear was measured to be higher during the first 3000 miles or so, then taper down during the OCI. The OCI mileage was quite high before wear started to go back up again. My take away was that overly frequent OCI's wouldn't help extend engine life...

Would a PCV catch can be worthwhile?

I have a PVC catch can on my Impala. Collects 1-2 oz of oil during an OCI and collects an oil/moisture mix in cold weather. I would rather have the oil in the catch can than the intake and the intake valves. I think it's worthwhile on DI engines, and that it helps to reduce (though not...

    Michelin CrossClimate2 Tires

I like the CC2’s on our Honda. 70,000 km’s (42,000 miles) on them so far, and they are wearing very well. Only have two complaints. They have gotten noisy at below highway speeds (but are ok at over 60 mph). Ice traction isn’t great, other all-season tires that were on this car were better on...

Pick one car if you had to made it last the rest of your life.

Of the three cars in my sig, probably the Buick. GM made a bazillion 3800 and 4t65E’s so parts should be available for ages. The technology simple too (OBD2), at least compared to new cars. Not exciting to drive, but the Buick is a reliable and comfy, roomy car. The Honda has been an awesome car...

Yeti wiper springs are awesome! Try them before buying new wiper arms

Don't mix these up with the Yeti Shart wipes listed beside the Yeti X-Wipe springs on the Amazon.ca page. Completely different products.

Yeti wiper springs are awesome! Try them before buying new wiper arms

I'm going to order a set, they're certainly inexpensive enough to give a try.

Yeti wiper springs are awesome! Try them before buying new wiper arms

I could use these for our Honda, the passenger side wiper often leaves an un-wiped swath. Only question I have is: Will the wiper arms stay upright (perpendicular to the windshield) when lifted to scrape ice and snow?

API finds nearly half of certified oils have issues

Foxtrot08's posts in this thread are an eye opener. I'm pinning my humble fleet's maintenance hopes on his comment "Chances are, with a major brand oil, you’re probably safe."

API finds nearly half of certified oils have issues

dnewton3 summed it up best I think. We really don’t know much at this point. How can confidence be fully restored unless we have all the information?

    “Inspect Accelerator Pedal” every 7500mi?

That's an odd maintenance item, with a frequent inspection schedule too. It would be useful for the manual to state what exactly your supposed to be inspecting.

    Your Biggest Retirement Regret?

Since we retired, my wife has developed her own social group of lady friends, and she's still working part time to keep busy. I feel kinda left behind at home with the dog sometimes. During our careers we almost automatically spent Saturdays doing things together. Now it seems more difficult to...

    Air filters are shrinking.

Inflation these days. But I would rather pay more for the original filter dimension than have less filter material.

    2022 F250 rental

I had an F-250 4x4 supercab (work truck) for five years with the 6.2 and 6 speed auto. I thought it was a decent powertrain, reliable and moved that heavy truck along pretty good. No shuddering during acceleration like the OP experienced (previous rental abuse?). My only complaint was the rough...

Oh she'll need some paint after this one.

Nice Jetta, I hope insurance treats you fairly. A deer totalled our low mileage 2001 LeSabre a few years ago. Did tremendous damage at 100 km/hr to the car and the deer.

GM 6.0 Piston Slap, what oil?

My 2004 GMC 5.3 work truck started cold engine piston slap noise at around 60k miles. I passed the truck along and then borrowed it years later from a different driver. It was still running good with the cold engine piston slap at 200k miles. Our shop used bulk 5W30 from a few different vendors...

If this ad is legit, How much would this 1986 Cutlass really be worth?

Here in Alberta I’ve seen similar condition 80’s mid size rwd GM and Ford cars listed at anywhere from $5000 to $8000 CAN.
