Your Biggest Retirement Regret?

Still working.

In my mind when is it time > money?

Having a 10 yo unfortunately shifts some weighting towards money.

Since we retired, my wife has developed her own social group of lady friends, and she's still working part time to keep busy. I feel kinda left behind at home with the dog sometimes.
During our careers we almost automatically spent Saturdays doing things together. Now it seems more difficult to be on the same page.
Retirement is much better than work stress, but it's not without a few challenges.

Retired from full time (34 years) in 2015 and have worked part time since. Not sure what I would do with my time if part of the week wasn’t dedicated to work (from home). I may find out come December as I will be at full social security benefit age. Wife is also part time. I’m 2 years older than her. We now pick up grandchildren at school etc. Just don’t want to stop working and begin a decline…..it’s all I’ve ever known.

Retired Dec 2020. The right move for me BUT bittersweet at times. I don't miss much but certain things are dearly missed.

I’ve seen people quickly decline and others thrive. It is all about having purpose in life. The folks who sit on the couch and watch TV never last long. The ones who find purpose keep going strong. From what I have seen anyways.

You’re doing a great thing helping with the grandchildren. No better purpose if you ask me.

After I retired, I had more people ask me sarcastically(in their snide voice),
"What do you do all day?"
And I'd say; "anything I want and nothing that I don't"
I mean really! Is work all they have?
I mean, don't people have any projects, hobbies, sports, interests, religion, help others or volunteer that they enjoy?

My BIL said it best. He said; "I don't have a thing to do but I am always busy!"

And others would ask me(again sarcastically); "why aren't you traveling?"
And I'd say; "who said that I wasn't!" I'm just not gone all the time.
I don't know anyone personally(regardless of their good money situation) that can afford to travel forever.
Not only that but, in order to travel so much(and I know people who do travel more than I), it's unhealthy! They've all gained and enormous amount weight due to their traveling eating habits.
Eating...
eating in the car
eating in the hotel
eating in restaurants all the time
eating fast food
eating on the go.

I mean at some point, the money will run low and you won't have enough money for the stroke(nursing home) or by-pass surgery co-payments.

I retired 3 years ago, with some friends in the same time frame. Sure I have alot more free time, which can sometimes get boring because the wife is still working. But In the time since I retired, 3 of my retired friend have moved away. Kinda puts a crimp in the friend pool. While I have others they are over an hours drive for lunch, or breakfast meetups. Keeping myself amused is the kind of work I can do without tho. I guess you can't always count on others to be available, just because you are.,,

sadly, as was said in A Bronx Tale, there are times I do believe we working men are suckers. We put 60+ hours a week into our salaried jobs and one day realize what was that for other than to save and pay bills…. 😡
