Then minimize that risk with a higher viscosity pick would make sense.

Let’s also not forget that while the boutiques get all the attention for being formulated for long OCI’s, they have also shown to strongly resist the effects of fuel dilution, while maintaining protection. So while it may not go 20k+ mile oci’s, I’d bet they could safely be extended past 5k a...

    Triax 0w-16 ('24 Crosstrek)

Lol oh yeah! I will admit I went down that rabbit hole when I had my 2.5rs and wrx. I now know better!

Nasioc is hands down the worst for lube emotions. On the flip side there is a ton of great info on subies buried there. I do miss the ej’s too!

    High Performance Lubricants PCMO Series

Another shoutout to Mary Jane and HPL! Worked with her over email for better part of a day to find a good balance of quantity and decent shipping after my initial order quote had super high shipping. Ended up splitting the order between usps and fedex. That type of excellent customer service...

Quite possible. I don’t want to decipher that though. Either they are upfront or they aren’t.

Case closed after this. Their oil may be just fine, however, hiding your contact info and it being wrong anyway is a huge no-go!

    Blackstone Labs

Same here. 4 weeks after Blackstone got it and the report is still subpar. For $35 I get an oil analyzers report through Amsoil WITH TBN included and two days after they get it!

The SECRET Oil Companies DON'T Want You To Know...

Just got around to watching the video and this is exactly what I took away too. I’ve personally never worried about running a non-approved oil, just cool to see a little more into how it’s done.

That seems to be an assumed trait of this oil. At its core it’s just another motor oil, with a cool new cleaning feature.

Dude, you are on a dedicated lubricants forum, you are just as obsessed with the “minutia” as the rest of us!

0w-30/5w-30 in a 2024 crosstrek and subaru timing chains

No. Would have to be an actual mechanical issue, oil wouldn’t make that happen.

This isn't always the case. Examples on this site of people who ran good oils from day one and still had HPL or SS dissolve plenty of nasties into the filters. It happened to me on my Sport trac.

Difference between budget friendly and Higher priced oil

Sure, a little more upfront cost. Once it is established that the oil can be extended a good deal, then the cost goes DOWN over following intervals. This has been beat down on this site too.

Yep, which all leads to the benefits I wrote about above.

Difference between budget friendly and Higher priced oil

A few of those are not a waste! So paying for a 20k oil and dumping it at 5k is somehow not a waste? Suppose if it makes you “feel” better…

Difference between budget friendly and Higher priced oil

The boutiques get you longer drains while maintaining protection and clean/keep clean power. If you don’t want longer drains then you still get the cleaning affect. Personally, it’s a waste to not extend drains for the extra you pay for those oils.

These oils take time to do their thing indeed. Much reason to believe rings are getting cleaned due to the filter cut/inspects posted here and my own observations, at least with HPL anyway. I’m watching this VRP closely, very interesting stuff.
