    New Icon Pliers

I'd like to try a pair to see how they compare to the Snap On pliers that I own. They work really good on hard to reach cotter keys because of the amount of grip.

    Washington DC (DCA) accident

I doubt we'll ever hear the true/full story because of there being a military aircraft involved.

    2006 F250 6.0L 187k mi; unknown oil 6.3k mi; coolant leak?

You need to find the source of the coolant contamination and fix it before you buy a crankshaft too. You are on the way to a major issue. Coolant attacks bearings and I'm thinking that's where the wear numbers are coming from.

Please Explain to me how changing the oil, increases wear for the next 1,000 miles

So I’m reaching back in time to my college years here but we had a program from Cummins I think that talked about frequent oil changes being detrimental to engines. Most if not all OTR engine manufacturers don’t want you to pre fill oil filters and that can require the engine to move up to a...

What really is a frugal car?

1994 Toyota Tercel 1.5l 4 speed. Bought in 2014 between high school and college to keep miles off my pickup during college. Couple sets of tires, timing belt, distributor, couple tune ups, 1 battery and I still drive it every day. Paid $1500 and in today’s market I bet it would sell for...

2021 John Deere 5100e Out: 3 gallons Schaeffer 700 15w40 and a RE504836 filter In: 3 gallons Schaeffer 9000 5w40 and a Deere RE504836 filter Had around 150 hours on the 15w40 and 350 hours total on the tractor. I think the 5w40 will help with the frigid temperatures we’ve been having this...

If you had to use a jobber/cheap filter what would you use?

I'm sold on SuperTech. The filters for most of my vehicles are around $4 or less. I looked at a bunch of C&P posts on here and they seem to be an exceptionally well made filter especially for the price. And to top it off they're made in USA.

Oil consumption and deposits are also a concern. You can do whatever you want with your engine and money but if it was mine it would get Delo 100 40wt. Pay very close to the sulfated ash content of whatever oil you wish to use. I own a truck with an 8v71 and maintain another piece of equipment...

    Yes it is so cold....

When you spray large volumes of water on stuff it tends to get on you. When it’s 3 degrees and your gear gets wet it freezes. Also you usually spend a lot of time in the now water soaked structure looking for hot spots so it’s essentially raining on you.

    Yes it is so cold....

Nothing like bouncing through the field trying to feed cattle when it's like this. Every pile of cow :poop: feels like driving over a concrete block.

    Yes it is so cold....

I'm not much of a seflie person but I took this Monday morning around 3am while doing overhaul for a house fire at 3 degrees. All of us were covered head to toe in ice, gloves frozen solid to the point you couldn't grab anything. Check out the ice on my helmet and collar. One of the most...

Is there a “best” inline fuel filter?

My service contract is up on my Deere 1025r so I have to do my own maintenance from now on. These tractors use an inline filter along with a cartridge filter/water separator. I’ve ordered loads of these off Amazon for gas OPE and we use the Prime Line version from Oreillys at work. I’ve also...

What are you working on today?

Modified a hydraulic cylinder for the top link on my 5100e John Deere today. Been wanting a hydraulic top link for a while but wasn’t happy with the off the shelf cylinder dimensions. This one was from Surplus Center and had the right size ball swivels but the one on the cylinder was too close...

Can you Tell The Quality of the Shop By It's Appearance

Find a different shop not because of clutter/appearance but because of quality of work. My bay at work is completely piled with stuff and I'm the highest performing tech in the shop. Don't judge a book by it's cover but by the work.

    New tool thread

Bought off Facebook Marketplace yesterday. Bosch GRL1000 laser. This is an upgrade to the traditional transit and grade rod that I use now. It takes 2 people and usually the helper looks like he’s trying to wave a flag off the grade rod while you’re looking through the eye piece. This will be...

    UOA Kubota RTV900

The little filter housings don't seal up perfectly especially with some aftermarket filters. Plus that could be a fluke reading, it happens sometimes. I would make sure all the clamps are tight in the intake system and that the filter and housing are in good shape and only worry about it if it...

What thread is this zerk fitting?

Thread diameter is too big to be 1/8 NPT based on the thread vs head size in this photo. I vote 1/4-28 and you have a messed up thread on the trailer spindle. Check it with a tap. I went through our extensive inventory of zerks at work and unless there's a smaller metric option than we have here...
