Any Toyota techs here? Wiring question.

I would repair the harness. Worst case you remove the harness completely, robust repair of every damaged wire and reinstall it. It's a few hours more labor but your saving >$1k on a new part. Remove extra wire to put the splices in accessible locations if you want.

Driving 70 vs 75 adds less than 5 min to a 1 hour trip. Unless your on a trip >3hours you can't really make up much time.

Can this power steering rack & pinion be repaired at home?

I've never had one apart. Mark the position of nut just in case it's orientation is critical. My guess is it's a cap, but it could have a bearing or bushing in it that supports the opposite end of the shaft. If you can, post some pictures of it apart. For science.

When traveling, what can a laptop do that pad not?

Something to consider. You can plug a Samsung Android Phone into a USBc Docking station and use it like a computer with the monitor keyboard and mouse. I assume you can do this with a samsung tablet as well.

    Another Ford Recall

I guess my point is do the vehicles have any higher chance of fire risk than the last 50 years? Or has their liability grown so much that they have to take the proactive recall approach.

    Another Ford Recall

I agree problems exist. In the past what would have been fix as fail under warranty, or just not fixed at all and some % of customers have a problem. They now have to do recalls because of the risk of litigation costs. So instead of 1% of customers affected by a real failure, 100% are affected...

Best Budget Gear Oil For Tundra

Rockauto has more budget options, the valvoline conventional is ~$6 / qt but the ST at $5.44 seems like the cheapest option. If you are trying to save money, don't bother changing the front diff. It doesn't spin unless you're in 4wd.

    Another Ford Recall

I wonder of part of the reason for increasing number of recalls is the growth/influence of NHTSA. They are probably worried about liability and issue recalls more frequently as apposed not fixing anything.

    OLD garage door pulley repair

If you really want an open bearing. Just pop the dust shields out of the shielded bearing. A shielded bearing is going to last longer. The open bearing will attract dirt.
