Gasoline Particulate Filters now coming on vehicles in the US

Thanks for posting this. This reinforces my thoughts that the best thing to do is make cars that last a long time. Make cars that are easy to keep on the road for 30 years so they don’t end up in landfills. It’s so asinine to me that governments do not see that all this emissions regulations...

    Today I learned ...

I own a Toyota Previa. After 1995 they added the supercharger to meet market demand. I knew from reading about them that they had supercharger oil. Kinda funny having to change supercharger oil in a soccer mom mobile.

3D printers useful for automotive hobbyist?

I watched a video of a guy talking about the merits of owning a 3D printer for car work specifically. He printed a gauge cluster, trim components, and an intake manifold(!). It really made me think these could be wonderful for replacing bigger old plastic parts. He also mentioned that 3D...

I was referring to Cujet, because I think he was talking about Semi trucks. Stats I referred to were about big heavy duty commercial trucks.

2024 iseecars vehicle safety study the 23 most dangerous cars on the road

NHTSA reported 4965 fatal accidents caused by trucks weighing 10,000lbs+ out of 35,766 fatalities. So 13% fatalities caused by big trucks in 2020 Out of those 13%, guess how many the truck drivers died? 17%. So yeah, bigger wins. Can’t win them all, that’s for sure. Do you have any data that...

2024 iseecars vehicle safety study the 23 most dangerous cars on the road

It’s strikingly similar to video games, pay to win. If you’re not a gamer, it means paying for some advantage over other human players. If everyone else is paying up to win, you feel extreme frustration because you are behind. Paying to win is in cars now too. Whoever throws more money at a...

2024 iseecars vehicle safety study the 23 most dangerous cars on the road

You’re not alone on this sentiment. I also dislike the unmitigated spread of large vehicles everywhere. In fact, I’m a prime example of the vehicle wars. I bought my wife an SUV to drive around our daughters because I wouldn’t want her to lose a crash with something heavier. I drive a 2400lb...

Stripped/galled drain plug.. best fix? (Without replacing pan)

As others have mentioned, drain valves are well worth the investment. I have Fumotos on both my cars. I love them so much, any car I purchase that I intend to keep a while gets a valve.

    Another Ford Recall

Maybe if companies focused more on superlative products rather than stakeholder shortsighted quotas, they might make products that appeal to more people. Most American companies are like this. Think only in terms of quarters. Not years.

    Broken Unibody Seat Weldnut

+1. Easiest solution. As strong as OEM? No. But what else are you going to do? Welding seems a bit involved.

Are EVs the death of the performance ICE market?

Hyper cars seem to be going that way. But I think rich guys want the rumble of gas to flex their tail feathers in large crowds.

Fell for the Old Used Oil in the New Jug....

Going a little into policy here, but if someone was caught doing this, there should be substantial consequences. A hefty financial fee and some sort of public tarring event. Let others know, if you get caught, this happens to you. imagine Chris Hansen, but with Motor Oil. Bob is the oil thief...

Advance Auto Parts to close 700+ stores.

The future’s online shipping. I don’t see this business model thriving decades in the future. Maybe the online retailers will use them primarily as parts holding and shipping outposts, secondarily as retail outlets.

    Replace fuel filter,lines?pics

$120 is cheap for peace of mind. But I wouldn’t call those an immediate risk. Likely what would happen is a pinhole leak. You’d notice drips after parking the car. Not exactly a life-threatening emergency.

What new car is built well, with metal parts?

It makes total sense from a manufacturer’s perspective to use more plastic parts. Cheaper to produce and design. They can easily last the 10 years needed for a warranty period. But there’s a reason why bridges and buildings won’t be made of plastic anytime soon. Plastics do degenerate with...

Are oil filter cap wrenches useless?

My dad used these kinds and passed it on to me. Their grip is so tight, last filter I removed with the tool, ended up with a thumb sized dent from the belt crushing the can. Took quite a bit of torque to loosen it.
