    What Constitutes a true BITOGer

Process control. There’s no reason to let it drip overnight when a proper (hot) drain will have it dripped out in minutes. Leave the hood up and the filler cap open the entire time. Hopefully that’s sufficient to keep someone driving it off with an empty sump.

    What Constitutes a true BITOGer

I recently learned my GX has a "thermal degradation of transmission fluid" algorithm." So even Toyota doesn't claim it's a lifetime fluid all the time! (this factor accelerates when certain ATF temperature thresholds are exceeded).

Diesel - How long can I actually store it?

Sulfur is not a lubricant in this case, at least not one that will show up on the HFRR scar size. This is a common misunderstanding because of the fallacy of correlation equals causation. The process of lowering the sulfur to S15 also lowered the lubricity. But the sulfur was NOT the source of...

    Garand OP rod spring?

It's worth mentioning that original 30-06 performance in the Garand was essentially identical to a modern .308. So if anyone is loading 30-06 to performance levels higher than what .308 would deliver with the same bullet weight, they are almost certainly outside the design parameter for the...

Diesel - How long can I actually store it?

Hard to say. I will say that many small engines do not have highly sophisticated fuel systems, so they tend to be quite tolerant of the things that can take out a modern high pressure common rail system. What is the micron rating of the fuel filter that came on your engine? If it's only 15...

    What Constitutes a true BITOGer

What if we have all these things, is there some like higher grade BITOG nirvana status?

    In-N-Out sues YouTube prankster

I couldn't agree more. I hope they fine him 10 years worth of all his Youtube Revenue for all his videos made in the last few years. Make him either pay a massive fine or pay a massive lawyer bill to try to reduce that fine. Either way, he pays-- as all nefarious people should pay for their actions.

    EGR and Detonation

We also don't use EGR on our large industrial units. SCR is sufficient for NOx reduction and has superior reliability vs EGR. We were able, in testing, to create conditions where it was condensing acid in the intake manifold. Turns out that the moisture in EGR plus NOx is a pretty bad...

Diesel - How long can I actually store it?

It helps. Biofuels deposits are mostly a function of time, temperature, and oxygen exposure. Moisture exacerbates the problems, too. Monthly exercise may not assure reliability, but it’s far more likely to at least reveal an issue before it’s too late to prevent it.

Diesel - How long can I actually store it?

Biofuels even in low blend ratios can cause actuator sticking. We have a manufacturing plant that was using B7. Engines would arrive and fail production test once built into equipment. The actuators on the fuel pumps were sticking from the b7 residue left in place a few months. If you need...

Can we expect to see more salvage/rebuilt used cars in the future?

I would imagine that the automakers would like nothing more than than to ban rebuilt cars in the name of public safety. If it means drat, you have to buy another super expensive car, well then shoot, that's a price their willing for you to pay.

Diesel - How long can I actually store it?

Yes, R99 is about an 8%-12% power loss just though density reduction. It's enough to notice it for most people. It's slightly worse than the transition from, say #2 diesel to #1 Diesel (kerosene). While in theory it can deliver better economy owing to the higher cetane, engines are generally...

    API Certified vs Non-Certified Oils

Right, so it's correct to say API or ILSAC grades are indeed fairly low, but the important thing is to look at what *other* endorsements/specs they meet. IF it's API SP and VW 504/507, that's quite a different discussion from being mere API SP only. And that's separate still from the EP vs...

K20C4 Oil Selection Sweepstakes is over (2022 Accord)

The turbo is water cooled and a minute of cooldown is completely unnecessary for anything this side of a racetrack. The amount of oil flow it takes to lubricate a journal bearing turbo is tiny. Back in the day, turbos had very high oil flow because most of the flow was for COOLING. But with a...

    Honda civic 1.5 Turbo

In your location (Toronto) I'd be looking for a Mid-SAPS 0w30 like Mobil 1 ESP. It's perfectly fine in the L15 and K20C.

    New Stihl Gas Lawn Mowers

I love my Honda, but full pressure lube with a filter is a major upgrade over splash lube in a GC160. I have the Nexite deck version, but I can see the Magnesium being even better. It's not brittle like the plastic is.

Synthetic Oil Brand and Weight for Powerstroke 6.7 HO

At 10,000 miles of service, the HPL sample is showing half the wear metal count of the Rotella when the latter had 7100 miles on it. That's frankly a staggering difference. It's quite typical that you will never see much more than a couple PPM either direction when switching oils, but for...

Synthetic Oil Brand and Weight for Powerstroke 6.7 HO

DELVAC extreme, hands down. I've seen real world testing with it on our large Cummins industrial engines. It's amazing. Or at least it was in 2015 or so when I saw the impossibly good condition in engine teardown.

oil filter change interval for 7.3L PSD?

Agreed. I think the best I've seen in literature was a simple 2% blend of biofuel. Low enough to mostly have no risk from the bio content, but high enough to make a noticeable improvement in lubricity. Adding lubricity is very easy to do. The trick is adding lubricity without also adding the...
