In praise of the cartridge oil filter

I believe the primary driver of cartridge oil filters is the “green” aspect of less waste. If they’re up top like the 2012 Santa Fe I change I’m all for it.

Upon further review of the report, they didn’t include multiple options my car has. I emailed a copy of the window sticker. They raised the payout to a tick over 6K. Took the settlement less the buyback. Now going to find someone to repair it less expensively.

    Hyundai filter drain plug update

So changing the oil on the wife’s 2022 Kona with the 2.0 Smartstream and the new OEM filter comes with a redesigned filter plug. With the new plug you can’t fit a socket on the housing. You must drain the filter first. (edit - MOD)

Been busy but finally sat down and really read the valuation report. They deducted a large number of options this car has. Emailed the adjuster a shot of the Monroney label to get it re-evaluated.

    Auto insurers and older cars

Current threshold with my insurance is 90%, but due to the high values in the used marketplace they’ll go a little higher. Just hurts that this is the second used car I’ve bought in really nice shape and less than 2 years into my ownership been hit and totaled. First one I bought back and...

Want to smack the Subaru engineers (oil filter placement).

My RX400H has a funnel to catch the oil and direct it. Hate tightening the new filter, very awkward.

Why doesn't Kirkland synthetic oil put a mileage rating on it?

In my application it shears down in viscosity so I’m going in a different direction. Looks good in my son’s car though.

What are you working on today?

Son complained his car smelled bad like something burning. Valve cover gaskets leaking a lot. I think the PCV valve was restricted as the breather tube had some mayonnaise in it. Ordered Mahle gaskets and a new valve, replacing them today. 149k miles, 2004 Sebring Convertible Limited with a 2.7.
