78 XS750 with excessive oil burning and lower compression in center cyl.

I run 2oz of MMO in every tank of gas in my 92 750 Nighthawk. Helps in the tank, petcock, carbs, compression, and exhaust. Tested compression before 140 135 145 140 Now 150 150 155 155 That's power you can feel. Got the bike at 20k miles, so sat a lot. Suspect stuck rings. Bottle only...

Winterization...to drain or not to drain?

I like this post. 1 year I drained, spring I turned it on and got a leak at the fuel tube O rings. This year I'm running 2 oz. of MMO in each 5 gal. fill up already. Might add some stabil and try wet this winter. Maybe 1 start after 2 months just to run new into the bowls.

    Rotella T6 Alternatives?

My bike only needs 3 quarts. Doesn't feel as bad. I wish they sold it in gallon containers, would be less. I'm going to keep using it, shifts great, runs great, can get it easily.

    Engine Types and Oil Specs

Honda used to always have the temp. chart for what oil to use. It allowed from 10-30 to 20-50. Now all of the sudden, with no engine changes, it's 10-30 across the board. I don't agree. Especially if it's an air cooled engine. Now oils have improved a lot since the 80's but 10-30? I use 10-40...

What did your last front tire cost? OUCH

Have the Harbor Freight tire changer setup since early 90's. Not playing their (dealers) stupid games. Have to buy the tire here, leave the wheel here, will get to it in the week. $300 tire, $70 mt.and balance, Tire mounted backwards, etc. On and on.

What is a good dry chain lube for oring chain - even though owners manual says no

Best stuff I've ever used, and I've used many. Spray on after a ride, chain warm.

    Spark plug reading

I'd run a Trailtech temp. guage. Need over about 325F but shut down at 380-400F. What is it exactly? Seems slow for 80cc. I'm getting 40-45 mph out of a hopped up QT50 with 65cc. Might want to mix the oil in instead of injection. Easier to jet and performance tune. What's the compression test?

How old is your oldest motorcycle?

1981 Yamaha QT50 Yamahopper. Been in family from brand new. Now 65cc Goes 40-45 mph. 1992 Honda 750 Nighthawk. Picked up less than 2 years ago at 20k miles. Now over 26k miles, love it! After several 1100-1300cc bikes, slowing down now that I'm 60. Like the V65 Sabre pics, had an 85.

2024 Current Formula Shell Rotella T4 15W-40 still ok to use?

Too many questions lately on that oil. I stopped using it and went to Super Tech 10w-40 Motorcycle oil. A bit more $$ but available close and great shifting in my 92 750 Nighthawk.

Would you be caught dead on a Honda Grom?

I have fun on anything with an engine and 2 wheels. Grom hasn't been out long enough for prices to drop enough though. When I can get a 750 for $1900 it doesn't make sense to get a Grom unless it's $300. In the rural area I live it's got to be fast enough to not get run over. Give me one...

Explain dry-sump to me - does the sump auto level itself?

Telling us what the bike is helps. I had a Honda XR650L that was dry sump. They are a real pain. If I remember right, start the engine, let it idle without touching the throttle for 5 min., shut it off, wait a couple min. then check. All while upright. (no centerstand) Give me wet sump anytime.

Post Your Latest (Motorcycle) Oil Change!

I think this new rating of diesel oil for low ash and cat. converters in cages will not work in wet clutches for bikes anymore. This coming year will tell.

Post Your Latest (Motorcycle) Oil Change!

First post here. 92 Honda 750 Nighthawk Old oil Rotella T6 15-40 Pulling out because I just put in a clutch and not sure if the oil caused it. Think diesel oils in bikes are done with the new mix. Been a good 30 years.☹️😡 EPA...AGAIN! New oil. Supertech 10w40 synthetic. Bosch 3300 filter.
