    Mowing lawn when wet?

Mow if you must but I would hose off or use compressed air to remove wet clippings from under deck to avoid corrosion. It will dry & stay there if you don’t remove it.

Super Start Platinum AGM battery failures.

I have a 2006 Mercedes E320 CDI diesel with an O’Reilly bci 49 battery p/n 49PLT. This is the second battery that has started failing within the warranty period. The symptom is low voltage after sitting for a week or more which causes slow cranking and a low voltage warning when cranking. It...

Post your latest small engine oil change

I have a 1967 Sears Suburban 12/6 with the HH120 Tecumseh. The last oil change/service grease etc. was 14 years ago!! Before you roast me you need to know I use synthetic oil and have never needed to top it up and it also looked fairly clean on dipstick. It is only used to pull a utility...

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

Why is Valvoline Restore & Protect so unique? The ability to clean pistons & rings and reduce or eliminate oil consumption is a game changer, but shouldn’t our current favorite oils have been doing this all along?? As with most great new product developments there is often a down side that’s not...

Valvoline restore safe in 2016 Volvo with 302 hp B4204T9 engine?

The mileage since last oil change was 3221 on Pennzoil platinum and used 1 quart +- I have a lift and catch the oil In a bucket in order to measure it. 🙁 I’ll give the Valvoline restore protect 4~5k miles to do its thing at which time I’ll measure what I drain out and then cut the oil filter...

I just changed the oil & filter in my 2016 Volvo xc60 using Valvoline Restore & Protect 5w30 @ 109447 miles. What would you recommend for a change interval?? I always catch & measure the oil drained out to keep tabs on oil consumption. Looks like it may have used 1qt since last change...

Valvoline restore safe in 2016 Volvo with 302 hp B4204T9 engine?

Are you serious? It has everything to do with it when it’s a 4 cylinder 2 liter direct injected turbo super charged engine developing 302 hp (150 hp/liter) & 300 lb/ft of torque in a heavy 4 wheel drive automobile that currently has 116,000 miles on it. If we scaled this up to yesterdays muscle...

Valvoline restore safe in 2016 Volvo with 302 hp B4204T9 engine?

Since I’ve heard about Valvoline Restore I’ve wondered if it would be safe to use in my Volvo with the 2.0 302hp engine with 116,000 miles. I messaged Valvoline and I received the typical follow the manufacturer recommendation. I’m really interested in trying it since I pulled the pvc valve...

Is 112k miles too high mileage for a Transmission service?

I have had 2 vehicles that were neglected prior to my possession. One was a 2012 Volvo XC60 which had a non serviceable transmission, the only maintenance possible was to drain approximately 2.5 quarts & refill. I changed the fluid perhaps 6~7 times slowly diluting the fluid. The transmission...

Any reason to run an engine after a oil change?

Why would you change oil & filter & not start it to fill filter & circulate the oil. That first start after sitting for months will be a dry start. I agree that starting briefly even for a couple minutes is not good particularly for the exahust system where moisture will condense & corrode it...

Winterization...to drain or not to drain?

Not a good idea in cold (freezing climates) unless you throughly warm it up. Condensation from combustion is created and settled in exahust & will eat it up. Park it after a hot supper then prep for storage however you choose but do not start it until you’re ready to completely warm it up...

    Generator 25 hr OCI, really?

20 hour oil changes were common with the old flathead engines. Today’s engines are run much cleaner so I would use some personal judgement oil changes. What did the oil look like when drained?? Was it transparent, dark or black? On the first & second oil changes you usually see metallic...

Cylinder pics. Car sitting for months. No rust.

When putting a vehicle up for storage fill the gas tank and run the vehicle to get the engine & exahust system up to temperature prior to shutting it down for a prolonged period. Put a battery tender on it and leave it be. Under no circumstances are you to start it even briefly unless you...

    Impressed with Maxlife ATF

I use Maxlife also & regularly drain the transmission sump every other oil chsnge measuring what I removed and refill accordingly. Our 2016 Volvo transmission is not serviceable but you can drain approximately 2.5 quarts I then refill with exact same amount. Quick & easy and keeps tranny happy.

    Brake fluid opinions!

I’ve seen no opinions pertaining to brake fluid unlike motor oil, grease & transmission fluid. I’ve always used Walmart or valvoline brake fluid never had issues. Am I missing something or is brake fluid generic in nature with no selling points other than price?
