What’s your mileage limit for buying a used car?

Depends on the vehicle and the maintenance of it. Right now I see a lot of 1st or 2nd owner 12-14 yr old Toyota Matrix coming up, with 120-150k, for $3-4-5k and with good maintain records those seem like a good buy. For the DIY I don't think there's too many $1k repairs in those for the next 5...

lowering tire pressure to ~20 PSI for beach?

Just use that to get back to 30psi. Any cheapie 12v ones seem to take forever to get above 40 and/or just melt down and die... Maybe not on the first tire, but I would bet on the 2nd!

what signals a need to change ATF?

Distance and/or time is the easiest way to know when to change the fluid. For the time and cost of getting an analysis, you might as well just change it. Then you know its good now, and you know when to change it next. Waiting for any kind of mechanical symptom is a very bad idea if you want...

Who's never traveled outside of the United States?

Sure, why not spend a day in a city like that? See the reality of people living regular lives in a way that's different than home. Gives you some perspective on how people can live relatively well with much less material items, especially in a warm climate.

    Backing into parking spaces

I'm in tropical southern ontario, and we don't have public power for block heaters. I think even Manitoba and Quebec who had hydro electricity to burn in the 70's, 80's, 90's, are phasing those out?

Hawaii is getting too expensive to visit.

Well, groceries seems to be cheaper in my area, and many things 1/3 less once you convert to US dollars? And we have a fairly monopolized grocery store system, but maybe the US is worse?

    Backing into parking spaces

Yes when driving for work, they advise us to do this, as it is a bit safer.

Who's never traveled outside of the United States?

You could try the fast food of other countries... There is a huge variety of ways to combine fat, salt and sugar, into something delicious! Also healthcare almost anywhere in the world is much much cheaper than the US. Still get travel and health insurance of course, but for the minor stuff...

    Towing and gear selection

What does the oil temp do when the pump switches to high volume mode? Seems like that would be putting quite a bit of heat into the oil? If I was ignorant of the big change in oil pressure(like I am with my cars) I'd think anything around 2500-3000 rpm would be a happy medium of rpm (coolant...

    Who wears a hat?

Ball cap, or if I'm out in the sun I'll wear a light colored wide brim tilley type hat. Usually they have some mesh ventilation.

Hawaii is getting too expensive to visit.

Well, to put it politely, the US leadership hasn't been the nicest ally lately, so some people have decided to mildly protest with their travel dollars. Make no mistake, the average Canadian feels no ill will, to the average American. I think roughly Canada is 1/6 of the US tourist dollars at...

Miata Meets Uncle Rodney - A 2.5L Swap Story

I think you'll find its a nice pulling 3k-6k rpm engine and revving it up to where the balance shafts really help, isn't going to be needed, as these don't have VVT? My 2.0 in the Focus has no VVT either, and in brisk driving, shifting at 6k or a bit after is fine. This is the one miata...

Hawaii is getting too expensive to visit.

We went last July, and highly recommend it too. 9 of our family went and we used G-adventures https://www.gadventures.com/search/?q=costa&ref=navsearch And did a 9 day family tour with a group of 20, with 3 very nice American families. We also went a couple days ahead and walked around San...

Time from feeling full from a meal to feel hungry again...

I get into the carb/sugar craving rut from time to time, and need regular meals and crave a snack before bed.... Not good for my health or belly. What works for me to break it, is to first just eat some veggies at night, broccoli or cucumbers fill you up with not much sugar, then replace...

Anyone running classic (old) two cycle outboards?

My buddy had the 15hp version, we just left the motor down, left a bit of sheen behind us... Glass float bowl on the carb is cool though, and it seemed to have really good power? We had a gps and got into the high 20's mph with me in the middle seat of a 16' aluminum, and it started thinking...

    Dealership shenanigans?

The trans oil change may have been forgotten by accident, since they rarely change the fluid? Not a big deal I guess for that transmission, but shows that even charging premium dollars, it doesn't always buy premium service. As for dealers overcharging for things like batteries, that's their...

Hawaii is getting too expensive to visit.

Sounds good to me, these places can tend to get ruined by tourism, and Hawaii is already a destination for those who don't care much about the price, so why not? If people don't like it, there's lots of similar climate places that are much cheaper.

Boxed yogurt - is this yogurt as healthy as just plain Greek yogurt?

Yes, the canning process kills everything. Normal yogurt needs to be refrigerated to slow down the bacteria so it will keep for a while. I'm sure canned yogurt isn't bad for you, just doesn't give your gut a shot of new bacteria that fresh yogurt does. I'm sure there's a local fresh yogurt...

Milwaukee Fuel Chainsaw leaking oil like crazy

I would think these are sealed motors, so no oil into it, but if everything is coated with oil, it attracts dust and chips so whatever heat sinks it has will start to become less effective. Take the bar off and keep going until you need special tools and see what you can see. Must be a youtube...
