17,185 mi Fram Endurance FE7317 cut open

It's been getting worse for a long time. Not sure I could point a finger at the oci and say that's what did it since it's been rattling since new.

The start up rattle the engine has had since brand new has recently gotten worse. I will take front cover off and check chain tensioners and phasers

    Engine in, remove radiator fans.

Subaru Forester 17,185mi oci, HPL 0w30

ARCO the noise I am referring to is not your normal FB startup noise. I work on these and this engine definitely has a not normal startup noise. It started out as the tensioner noise but now is quite the booming racket unti oil pressure builds and I intend to fix it. I have noticed more sluggish...

Good point. Looking forward to possibility of lowering that top off and having less skewed results

Subaru Forester 17,185mi oci, HPL 0w30

PCV related best I can tell. Curious what it will be with current different pcv valve over the course of an entire oci. So far have driven 11-12,000 miles with different newer pcv valve design.

Subaru Forester 17,185mi oci, HPL 0w30

Agreed. 7ppm not necessarily concerning but it essentially doubling over a similar run last oil change with the startup rattle getting much louder has me wanting to fix the noise.

Subaru Forester 17,185mi oci, HPL 0w30

2018 Forester 6 speed manual FB25. 2 quarts top off added before 9,000 miles. Consumption due to PCV consumption. I have replaced the specified pcv valve with the newer larger pcv valve in the 2019 Forester, Ascent as well as the tubing to the intake manifold. Consumption since replacing valve...

Wicked dry. Impressed with composition of this filter. It was tedious to remove media and well designed. Small deposits in between pleats. Not sure if I would call deposits hard or soft because they are small difficult to focus on, feel grimey in hands. When removing media the deposits would...

Sent in a sample. Will post in uoa section when it's analyzed. Not sure if it's a lot of metal or not for 17k. I couldnt see them by eye easily but the camera seems to pick them up better and possibly make them look bigger. Will check the media closely when it is wicked dry.

Ran the oil for 17k. 2 quarts top off. Last quart added at 9k. Less than a half quart consumed from 9k-17k. Tried something different and installed the newer design larger pcv valve as I was noticing consumption whenever the pcv valve was more than 2-3k old and highway driving. Newer pcv valve...

If HPL was NOT a sponsor here then how would it truly compare to other boutique oils like redline and Amsoil? What makes HPL different and special?

If HPL can clean up and keep clean the piston rings in my engine which is prone to oil consumption, even at extended intervals, it's a no brainer for me. I keep my engine for its entire useful life. A product that apparently can maintain cleanliness in piston rings is a must for me.

I'll try my best. Havent removed the media on a wire backed filter before. I'll try it on a wire backed titanium when one comes in first.

Fram endurance FE7317 in use for 17,185 miles with HPL 0w30 premium passenger car engine oil in use on my 2018 Subaru Forester 2.5i FB25 6MT. I think the filter held up well but I am no expert. I will update with more pictures of media once it is wicked dry

    Fluid Film on Hub Flanges

I live in and service vehicles in rusty NY. I've used fluid film on hub faces for a few years and the old rotors come right off when sprayed during the last brake job, even if there was a hot situation like a sticking caliper.

    "Long term" HPL users: feedback/thoughts/analysis

I'm not quite long term yet but am nearing the end of my 2nd oci with HPL and 32,000 miles of HPL use. Starting the 3rd oci in a few weeks. Oil consumption is less, engine runs smooth, looks clean under the oil fill. Looking forward to my second uoa with HPL for this vehicle and expanding my HPL...
