LSjr Tests VOA of 20 yr old Valvoline & 40 yr old Mobil 1 Oil. HPL tests Anti-Foam in Gear Oil.

Thx RDY4WAR, That picture is specifically bearing cavitation from 5W-40 rotella? What engine is that picture from, meaning bearings used in real life? Good visual evidence, the first one I've seen but it definitely looks like there was a problem in that specific case. I'm not saying there isn't...

LSjr Tests VOA of 20 yr old Valvoline & 40 yr old Mobil 1 Oil. HPL tests Anti-Foam in Gear Oil.

Where's the picture of an oil that didn't foam? With respect, that amount of liquid oil difference in a test tube for lack of a better term, relates very little to the difference in oil level in a sump that is spread out over much more area. As we know, the oil pickup pulls from the lower end of...

AMSOIL Metric Motorcycle OR Dirt Bike??

OP, same recommendation based on the same question you asked in the other thread you started about this bike. Were you not able to get the answer you wanted in that thread? Something that is shear proof, M1 10W40 4T or other that has shown through analysis to be shear proof. You are on the...

    New Honda CRF250F

Choosing between 10W-30 and 10W-40 when both are an option, unless you're riding in severely cold temperatures, 10w40 would get the nod every time in my opinion. It's a higher viscosity when warm which in a good/great synthetic such as M1 10w40 4T, will stay in grade and provide more consistent...

    New Honda CRF250F

Congrats on a nice bike for your boy! It takes 1.5 quarts of oil from on a quick check on the internet . M1 10w40 4T would be my choice. 20 horsepower and 15 ft lb of torque isn't going to over stress the oil. 4T does very well in a shared sump in line 4 cylinder in my garage that makes 145...

    Amsoil metric oil

No problem running the Amsoil, however I would put it in the boutique category. 1k to 2K a year on mileage regardless of which synthetic, to my mind doesn't necessitate synthetic at all. If that bike has 2,000 Mi a year for 17 years, that is 17 oil changes in 34,000 mi. If it's closer to 1,000...

Can I use Mobil-1 V-Twin 20-50 in an EXC450 single cylinder water cooled motor?

The water cooled engines spec 10w40 in many cases however my 2001 zrx1200 with high compression pistons, ZZR 1200 cams, ZZR 1200 carburetors and a rear wheel output of 145 horses and 87 ft lb is liquid cooled and 20w50 is my choice. Kawasaki initially recommends 10W-40 however there's not a...

Post Your Latest (Motorcycle) Oil Change!

All good points. Many motorcycles over 100,000 miles on Rotella and going strong. Never heard of one with a clutch failure that was claimed to be premature. Way too many variables with respect to clutch life and oil will play such a small part IMO.

Post Your Latest (Motorcycle) Oil Change!

It's good to have positive discussion and not get undies in a bundle. Millions of motorcycles and hundreds of millions of miles over decades and decades have shown otherwise even in the modern era using Rotella. Imo, real world experience and results show saying Rotella may cause problems...

What is going on with the MC styling these days?

Just about any video I've seen from riding in countries of that nature it's really interesting. Either the lack of knowledge that the human body is frail and will go splat or they have no fear of dying.

What is going on with the MC styling these days?

I posted in another thread, in 2024 the largest countries in the EU combined for 132,000 moped registrations. That's a fourth of the total registrations we had for motorcycles in the United states. But it's not even 10% of the registrations in europe. Overall the bikes they sell are smaller in...

C'mon Honda get your act together

Thanks for the elaboration, I hadn't heard any of those issues in reading up on the 1100 XX when comparing to the ZX 11, ZZR 1200 which were the competition back in the day, other than the Hayabusa which obliterated them all

Mobil 1 4T racing motorcycle oil VOA

I run it for 5,000 miles in my motorcycle, 1200 cc inline 4. Works great, numerous UOA's in the motorcycle section. TBN after 5,000 MI was in the 6's so different lab, different samples means little.

Honda E-Clutch - How did I miss this

Did a little digging, in the six biggest European markets a total of 132,000 moped registrations in 2024. American buyers aren't as interested in the smaller displacement motorcycles but apparently the companies know where the money is so parallel twins are what we get from a major manufacturers.

Honda E-Clutch - How did I miss this

I shared this in another thread in this section. Figured it would be helpful over here if folks didn't see it in the other one. We just don't buy enough motorcycles to produce motorcycles that are not also salable in europe. "Looking at some quick data, Europeans purchased over 2.47 million...

What is going on with the MC styling these days?

Looking at some quick data, Europeans purchased over 2.47 million motorcycles (based on new registrations in 2023). With Spain, France, Italy, Germany and the UK being responsible for well over 1 million of those. The United States was about 550,000 in new registrations... To me those numbers...

What is going on with the MC styling these days?

Don't know if this is the particular article I had read, but if you read through all of it, it helps explain what I was sharing above. There is an element of hydrocarbons being trapped in the cylinders around ring gaps as well...

What is going on with the MC styling these days?

Agree grampi. In my estimation it's not going to happen and I think we all can agree on that. A lot of it has to do with the World Market not just the United states. Read an interesting article about inline 4 cylinder engines versus parallel twins of the same displacement. 16 smaller valves...

What is going on with the MC styling these days?

Pick up a nice used ZRX 1100 (1054 cc), go high comp overbore 1109 pistons and used ZX11 cams. Fast as any new bike and looks a whole hell of a lot better. Or a used ZRX 1200 (1164 cc), stock bore high compression pistons and find a used set of cams from the head of a ZZR 1200 on eBay for 500...
