Post milestone or just plain fun odometer pics!

2008 Scion xB. MPG readout is pretty accurate VS calculated at pump. Mostly country back roads, and some idling here and there. Not bad for a Camry 2.4L pushing a refrigerator through space & time. At 227k the oil consumption is 1qt/4K miles. Using VRP 5W-30 to hopefully fix that. Although this...

Is that a ScanGauge3? If so, how do you like it?

What new vehicle / engine is worth owning ?

I heard these chew through transmissions with quite an appetite. Any idea if that's true?

An abandoned movie theater parking lot, a couple miles away from the Tesla dealership in Charlotte. I guess they ran out of space at the dealership for these unsold refrigerators, and a few other models. Wonder if these get sold or get rusty first.

5k OCI- does oil choice really matter?

Multiple J35, K20, K24, R18, 2JZ, 2AZ, 1NZ, 1UZ, and 1ZZ engines got a thing or twelve to say in agreement to my initial comment. Because that's the engines I personally had to repair or replace those solenoids on. And on some the solenoids we're fine, but the pre-solenoid mesh filter was...

5k OCI- does oil choice really matter?

I've replaced, revived, or cleaned enough faulty Toyota/Lexus VVTi solenoids, and Honda/Acura VTEC solenoids, to know that varnish is not harmless. It is also what causes stuck piston rings, and then heavy carbon buildup just solidifies the deal.

Don't let it distract you from the fact that it's the poor people's responsibility to make better life choices and help with global warming. 🤡

5k OCI- does oil choice really matter?

Yes, it does matter. Recently there was a lot of valvetrain pictures here on BITOG with lots of varnish, despite using oils like Mobil 1 or other top shelf stuff from oil shelves at 5k intervals. Feel free to kill a couple hours in Photo Section if you'd like. The common denominator in all those...

Scion xB. Sorry, but I love it too much to let anyone butcher its name.

    No more Kia Soul?

K4 is quite nice for what it is, and it's only $1k-$3k more than the Soul. So seems like while older people snatch up the last Souls (easier on joints to get in/out), the younger generation is getting all the K4 with sportier handling and sleeker aesthetics. Plus there is Kona and Seltos to...

    No more Kia Soul?

I actually got excited when they finally gave the Kia Soul a turbocharged engine for a limited time. Unfortunately AWD never happened.

    Best Used Commuter Car?

I wonder what year model was in your experience? I had a 2008 Mazda6. 2.3L/5MT. Absolutely loved the seats, extremely comfortable. And it was my vehicle of choice when I had to go Charlotte NC to Charlottesville VA and back a few times per year. Over 30MPG on a 20 gallon tank meant 500+ mile...

    Best Used Commuter Car?

2010-2015 Prius (and Prius V) with 1.8L has the highest rate of head gasket failures. 2009+ Corolla, Matrix, Pontiac Vibe, and Scion xD of that era are also known for head gasket failures on same 1.8L, but Prius holds the crown for highest rate of failure still. The Prius C with the 1.5L is good...

    Best Used Commuter Car?

Had two 2001 Civic coupes. Both ate their automatic transmissions, thankfully many months after I sold them. But both killed transmissions before 150k miles.
