    Bicycle Maintenance

https://analogcycles.com/ Came across this place. Lots of cool stuff. So far, I bought some seat post clamps and machined brass brake cable ends. Great for stocking up on cool small parts.

    Dial back timing light

I have one of those Snap On digital timing lights they came out with in the 90's. I really like the tach feature. I did find it doesn't work so well on engines with MSD. While building a car with a friend, he bought me an Innova light with the flex head. I like that a lot.

Old Panasonic bike tires replaced with Continentals

I dabble in pavement stuff from time to time. Two of my go tos are Schwalbe Marathons, (any of them) and Surly Extraterrestrials. The Surlys are fantastic but they're pretty fat so they don't fit everything.

Does this even sound remotely legal/ethical?

Many years ago I was looking for a square body Yukon or Tahoe, used. Saw one at a dealer with 399 a month across the front window. I stopped in and asked how much for the Yukon. Guy replies 399 a month. I said how many months? Guy says what's your credit like? I ask how much is the truck...

    Will this additive help?

They don't really describe what water wetters do accurately. While water by itself is the best coolant, it needs an anti corrosion additive and plain water doesn't adhere to internal surfaces perfectly to carry heat away. I've seen old X ray films made by Caterpillar showing engines running...

Old Detroit Diesel fire pump at work.

I've serviced oodles of those in the past. Thanks for the memory. My family runs a generator repair shop. I've seen those small fire pumps with 353s, 371s and 471s. Lots of 671, 12v71 8v92 and 16v149 generator sets as well. I have a love hate thing with them. I dig how they crank and ramp...

    How OLD are you.

I'm 58. I've seen most of the stuff mentioned here. One thing that makes me laugh is the time I was visiting an aunt and uncle in Maine. I was fixing something at their house so my aunt and I went to the hardware store. I got what I needed and my aunt told them just put it on her account...

How Likely Is It That I Can Get Bank1/Sensor2 O2 Sensor Out?

I've never not gotten one out. My penetrant of choice... Mouse Milk. Apply it with a Q Tip while hot.

How worn and stained does a car repair shirt have to get before you toss it?

I only buy Duluth Trading Longtail T's in black and navy blue. They last a long time and they don't show stains too badly. I cycle out old ones when they get real ratty looking.

2012 Chevy Sonic 1.8 - "Chocolate Milkshake" in Coolant Reservoir

It won't take much. Give it maybe a 1/4 cup. Yes, then a couple of rinse cycles. I've done this on big Caterpillar engines and poured in the entire bottle. That Opel was kind of a cool little engine. In fact, the entire car was actually cool. It had the four cam six, four wheel...

2012 Chevy Sonic 1.8 - "Chocolate Milkshake" in Coolant Reservoir

Run the engine with water and Cascade dishwashing liquid in it to wash out any remaining oil. You'll be amazed at what comes out. When I first met my wife 23 years ago, she had just bought a Saturn with this Opel V6. After a few years I spotted the milkshake. Engine had a liquid to liquid...

Do you recalibrate your torque wrench?

I used to give mine to the Snap on guy every couple of years. He'd charge me 25 dollars per wrench. One time I suspect he forgot and when I asked him he said Oh Yeah! and handed me my wrench without a certificate or anything and charged me 25 bucks and said it was perfect. I KNOW he didn't...

    New tool thread

Yesterday, we started to put new shocks in my son’s truck. I didn’t have a 21mm combination wrench or 1/2” drive socket so went to HF and got him some stuff. Also got him an 18” breaker bar. I get to the counter and the guy tells me I get 20% off today and get to pick something free off the...
