    QS Filter Miles

I use them for one OCI -- about 5500 miles on 04 Sienna and 06 Accord V6. They seem to be Purolators inside, and have purolator datecodes stamped on the outside. I cut them open and haven't seen any tears. The endcaps are often loose, but I do not believe that is an issue. I have only cut open...

    2003 Focus Kills Strut Bearings

Just in case, maybe test-fit the bearing to the cap. Use a paint pen to trace around the bearing. Recheck after assembly.

    2003 Focus Kills Strut Bearings

I'm having a hard time visualizing this. When you reassemble it, the spring is compressed and around the strut, then you place the spring cap over the spring, then the bearing and finally the mount? Then tighten the nut. At this point it appears the mount will be secured to the strut but the...

    2003 Focus Kills Strut Bearings

If not already done: maybe take just the strut and the strut mount and make sure they fit together properly. From the pictures I'm thinking there must be a recess in the mount into which fits the stepped part of the strut; be sure it goes in all the way.

any cord cutters doing it right?

I get by with HD broadcasts (mostly sports) and just added SlingTV for ESPN & Disney for the kids. Sling is $20, use a Roku or PC to view.

    Phosphates ,and dishwashers.

After reading this thread, I just cleaned out the arms and screens for our GE dishwasher. A lot of the spray holes were plugged up and the screen was full of debris. I am running it now and can just hear how much water is spraying around.

    Solid State Relay Specs.

The old Ford SSR part number F3LB-2C013-AA had about 10mA of current. Basically a 1.4K pull-up resistor to battery voltage on its input.

    Secret code for 0W14 found???

Should say 0V014. 0V140 would be really thick.

Total Repair & Maintenance Cost over 200k Miles

2004 Sienna FWD 0 to 200k miles: $3975 200k to 220k miles: $3331 Cost above is maintenance and repair costs. The $3331 includs trans rebuild, exhaust manifold, LCAs, ball joints and motor mounts. All work performed by me except transmission, recalls and tires.

    On board UPS?

You could get away with it most of the time. However it is not a good idea -- the UPS will probably not be designed to withstand the 'transient' voltage spikes from the charging system that occasionally can occur. There is a remote possibility it could fail and start on fire and burn your car. I...

Beetle TDI Battery Fuse Box Melting

If it melted just near that destroyed fuse, then high resistance connection likely mmcaused it -- a gapped connection. If it got hot in the lower right hand part of the first picture, then probably there is a circuit board inside that burned. Either Way, a new fuse box should fix it.

    Replacement Radiators and cooling capacity

I replaced radiators for 95 Honda Odyssey and 2004 Sienna with cheapest ones from RockAuto. Both were noticeably thinner and less capacity. Both work fine and needed less coolant to fill.

Has anyone done an EFAN conversion?

I swapped a Valeo fan from a '90s era 3.8L Lincoln Continental into a Camaro once. Those fans move a lot of air, so I'd think it'd work for you if the Taurus is similar and fits. You need a high-amp relay (I used Bosch 40A). Not sure about the temp switch.

Alignment that won't rip me off

NW Suburbs of Chicago? Thalman Alignment in Glenview always does good work. They are 100% trustworthy. I don't think they have a lifetime alignment plan and they will cost more than a chain store, but your car will be precisely set-up.

    Robotic Lawnmowers

I have been using a Robomower for 10 years or so. No problems with theft. YMMV. You don't want to have to watch it, you want to let it work unsupervised while you are doing something else.

Why is quality control so good ?

I remember in the late 70's or early '80s that Mobil recalled their conventional oil. I worked at a Mobil full-service station and everyone came in with their cars for oil changes. Customers did not need to have receipt, just sign a form and we returned the oil filters to Mobil for...

Thanks! I'm going to buy some 5/16" fuel hose. In the meantime I cut off the ends of the bad hose and stretched what was left into place.
