    PL10111 cut open

Moisture, either from condensation or coolant leaks causes both wavy pleats and sludge. Could be some built up somewhere and pealed loose or the PP loosened it. I hate to suggest unneeded driving, but you might find excuses to make a longer drive every week or 2 to boil off the moisture.

    used filter?

Where are you getting this quart or 20% dirty oil? My truck holds 6 quarts of oil and its filter is a fairly large 3 1/2'' x 3'' one, but only holds about a half quart. A common PF 47 would much less.

    End Of Microsoft

My future is unclouded. I don't use office apps much. I do have some letters on my to do list. They will written on an ancient Power Mac using Clarisworks. That will be a fly swatting task best suited to my flyswatter. Word and its Open Office work alikes, is a sledge hammer I have never had...

    used filter?

The cut open filters posted here daily seldom show much built up on them. Often the media is quite black. That could be due to being filled with wear particles almost too small to be seen. While good data on how new filters filter may or may not be available, there is hardly anything on used...

    Oil nostalgia--

So what was it SE or something? I had an engine sludge up bad on SF.

    Looking for a clear urethane

Not sure why I didn't reply back in January. The Rexthane is not a water based material. It draws moisture from the atmosphere to cure. It is likely the toughest single package material that cures at room temperature. I have used it as a top coat to a poured epoxy floor finish.

Acetone is good, so is lacquer thinner better?

I have never posted anything about experiments on fuel pumps. I have never done any. I was just trying to give some general background. It is hard to give specifics. While the chlorine content of Neoprene gives it resistance to hydrocarbons, there are various grades of Neoprene. and many...

    Thread Sealant or Teflon Tape?

I like the Permatex Pipe Sealant. I recently did a natural gas project with about a dozen inch pipe joints, some of which I left a little on the loose side to get a tee pointed in the right direction. Went over every joint with soapy water after I was done and didn't see the first bubble.

    EaO44 Cut open (~13K miles ASM 0W-20)

Doesn't look like it has that many pleats. However, there is more to filter quality than sqin media. BITOG is a tough audience.

Synthetic blend and high mileage vehicle = leak?

Since I redid the valve cover gasket on my 145K truck, it is leaking less M1 than it did Pennzoil YB.

Why Don't BITOGers Care About The Environment?

The BITOG community is large and diverse with different attitudes towards the environment. Yes, I cringe when I read some posts here, often things like letting your truck idle until it warms up, and driving larger vehicles than needed. But there are plenty of people doing well here too.

I have walked away from a few forums too. In general, on the net, I think the trend is away from rational, factual posts. Things do seem to have quieted down here recently.

    different oil quality?

So who feels strongly enough about this to buy some oil from Walmart and the same brand from maybe NAPA have a VOA done on each? I lean towards Mobil refusing to release an inferior product with the Mobil label. Brand names mean something. Look at the way Conoco-Phillips is trying to exploit the...

Correct 1.8T oil filter/bypass pressure question

A lower bypass means under some conditions you will get good flow but some unfiltered oil. A higher bypass means less dirt, but less flow. I doubt it makes much difference unless you run thicker oils. I also wonder how much science goes into setting a bypass spec. I suspect they come from a...
