BMW factory oil recomendations, is this document still current?

They no longer need to do that. Now it is just a matter of different parameters in the software. The world has changed.

BMW factory oil recomendations, is this document still current?

Different regulations. Different fuel quality. Different temperatures. Different liability laws. Different particulate filters. Different speed limits. Different maintenance habits. Different competition. Have you noticed that when you download something, the download program wants to know...

BMW factory oil recomendations, is this document still current?

I asked a question. Why do I have to explain something to ask a question? You said it is not possible. Why is it not possible?

BMW factory oil recomendations, is this document still current?

Also, keep in mind that BMW is almost as much an American company these days as a German company. Its largest plant is in the US, and it is now America's largest car exporter. It would be trivially easy for a BMW engineer to sample American fuel in Greenville SC every day on the way to work, and...

BMW factory oil recomendations, is this document still current?

Is it possible that BMW is programming cars sold in different parts of the world differently to match local regulations, conditions, and/or experience? If so, it would explain these differeing geographic requirements for oil types, even if the cars affected are mechanically identical.

    BMW B58 0W-12?

Note that BMW's LL01 FE now claims to meet SP requirements, while their LL01 makes no such claim. Since Castrol's LL17 FE+ also claims to meet SP requirements, and they are BMW's supplier, I expect that the BMW branded version to soon make that claim as well once BMW has worked through their...

Video: How much does duel injection help carbon build-up

One of the differences between the two versions of Ecoboost engines in the video is that the Gen1 engine spent most of its time running at best SN grade oil, while the Gen2 engine probably spent most of its time running SP grade oil. Since one of the goals of SP was to reduce IVD, this alone...

    Air BnB

I have used AirBnB, Vacasa, and VRBO/Homeaway on multiple occasions. The only issue I encountered was with an AirBnB "Superhost" canceling my fully paid for reservation on me. Here are my notes on using the different services: Vacation rental options, from lowest to highest risk: Properties I...

I guess tires do harden with age

I bought a new Chrysler Maserati TC in 1989. It came with Michelin MXM tires. When I sold it last year it still had three of the original four tires on it. No problems.

    2021 M2C S55 with 10k miles; BMW 0w-30 3.5k miles

The adpack of the VOA looks amazingly similar to the one used by Castrol Edge, while this one does not. I wonder if the bulk oil analyzed in this UOA was made by SOPUS, while the bottle shown with the VOA featuring an SP claim was made by Castrol.

    2021 M2C S55 with 10k miles; BMW 0w-30 3.5k miles

This UOA looks quite different than the VOA posted at https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1818756 . They look like two different oils, but both have the same part number ...

Convergence of the API SP/RC (ILSAC GF-6) and ACEA-2021 specs

Oops, I screwed up. The UOA derived values under Castrol Edge Extended Performance 0W-20 C6 are not for that oil but for Castrol Edge 0W-20 SN. Treat with skepticism rows 7-16 in that column.

Convergence of the API SP/RC (ILSAC GF-6) and ACEA-2021 specs

Here is an interesting comparison that I put together of 4 current Castrol products using the most recent data available. The first three are very similar. With the exception of the higher weight for the third product, are the first three products actually the same product or slight variations...

Convergence of the API SP/RC (ILSAC GF-6) and ACEA-2021 specs

Thanks. I have seen this chart before and wondered what the publication date was. Is it recent? Is the context for the US or some other part of the world? LL-01, LL-04, and LL-12 FE are not among the recommended oils in my 2019 US B48 manual. BMW may have changed their mind about those oils...

Convergence of the API SP/RC (ILSAC GF-6) and ACEA-2021 specs

My BMW's manual does not allow for oils meeting the LL-01 spec - only LL-01 FE or LL-17 FE+. So Pennzoil is not in the game, unfortunately. But thanks for the suggestion. So, my conclusion is that at least for recent model BMWs, the set of oils meeting @Gokhan qualification of "if a legacy ACEA...

Convergence of the API SP/RC (ILSAC GF-6) and ACEA-2021 specs

Why is this relevant to me? Because @Gokhan said (see above) "if a legacy ACEA oil also carries an API-SP approval, it will ensure that it will provide the highest valvetrain wear, timing-chain wear, and LSPI protection." I found one oil with BMW LL-17 FE+ approval that also claimed SP...

Convergence of the API SP/RC (ILSAC GF-6) and ACEA-2021 specs

If it is not relevant to them, why do they claim an SL rating for LL01, SN for LL-17 FE+, and SP for LL-01 FE? I already pointed out that none of the oils I mentioned feature a starburst on their bottles, and hence was skeptical about whether any of them have official approvals as claimed.
