For the 504/507 VW specifically wants 5W30 grade and GrIII base stock. Nothing else gets approved. That's why all you see is gr3.
It's the way the add pack was tested and the car testing as well.
Red Line 5W30 Euro is mostly PAO with a good dose of polyol ester and it is an upgrade over any...
Most manufacturers (Red Line aside) give out 3-5 years of shelf life. While I can't understand how an oil would expire (like food) I guess the sediment issue could be one reason.
To your question in the title:
It's obviously just a multigrade (for lack of more information). Why would the consumer assume it is more than what it's labeled?
If I made a straight grade (aka. no VII) that was also a multi grade I would label it as such for the consumer...
Peter allow me a shot please.
Here's how I see it
If you have the smallest elemental unit for oil on the dS(smallest element of surface) at an instant unit of time dt your concentration is all that matters.
The rate at which the AW is replenished on the surface is dependent on the...
Film strength includes solid films EP and boundary additives all coming from the oil. Misunderstanding is on your side.
Regarding HTHS...it's obvious viscosity helps film strength more so if you're looking for high shear behavior but it's not the whole story. It is however a standardized test...
Yeah, well I'm waiting on a 75W-80 GL-5 MTF from both of them.
Most FWD french cars need that in spite of helical gear construction.
I certainly hope Amsoil comes out with anything to compete with RL. The winner is always the consumer. The MTF certainly gives the MTL a good run for the money.
Red Line 's DCTF is out: http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=146&pcid=9
Price is huge. They're not covering the GTR. Must of different spec. than the rest of the bunch:
VW TL 052 182
VW TL 052 529 (AUDI)
BMW DCTF-1 & MTF-LT-5
Peugeot/Citroen 9734.S2
Ferrari TF DCT-F3
Mitsubishi SSTF-I...
Tell your mechanic to stick with screwing and unscrewing things. That would be what he does. Other things he should go to school for before feeling too important.
Compression is not worse. It's actually expanding the piston more because of the higher piston to block temperature difference...

SAE J300 is lacking a lot of stuff. There is no sae 5 or sae 10. Therefore it is incorrect labeling.
These single grades should correctly show sae5W or sae10W and they...

Where does Redline list the PDS for a DCT Fluid?

I don't think this is a big deal. Breaking a bolt is smth you can avoid if you pay attention.
Subaru heat shields are always going to rattle. You'll be doing this a lot more as the car gets older. Expect becoming an expert on this.
Use the appropriate washers like grower or other lock type...

I suspect that if the market demand appears to large enough for them they would be working on DCT fluids.
How many vehicles in Europe are using DCT trannies?

They seem to follow the Euro line new design label.
Anyway here's the specs for both so you don't go back an forth. I didn't think there's a lot to steal from Amsoil on this but I guess they think it's worth it.
