I just received my latest oil analysis back from Blackstone Labs for my 2006 Kia Sedona. I'm happy that the Silicon level has gone down over the past couple of oil changes.

As a follow up to my original post: I had the oil drained and refilled with PP 5W-20 by a mechanic that I trust. The oil that came out looked like it had been in use for several thousand miles. It was very dark brown and looked just like the stuff that had been sampled when the dealer "changed"...

I believe that the tensioners are indeed oil fed. There was a horrible grinding noise on startup (sort of like a bicycle chain that had come off a sprocket) before they were replaced. It makes sense that some metal particles were worn away into the oil.

My other vehicle, a 2006 Sonata, is proving to be very reliable. The Oil analysis (@52,000 miles) was excellent. It's got the 3.3L version of the Lambda engine (the Sedona has the 3.8L) - so basically the same engine. It's actually quite interesting how many parts are common between the two...

The Timing Chain Tensioners were replaced at approx. 13000 miles. That's about 2000 miles (just under 2 months) before the oil was drained and then filled with the oil sent off for testing. That would make sense. It has me a little worried though.

I'm been following the "Normal" maintenance schedule - changing the oil every 7500 miles. The first oil change was at around 3000 miles. The following changes at (approx) 7500, 15000 & 22157 were all done using Pennzoil Plat. 5W/20.
