Ok, so it sounds like the general consensus is - it is a good thing. Someone said, "it sounds like I have a good one here." Yeah, after $2200 in a new tranny after buying it used with 60,000 and after 10,000 miles. And numerous other things here and there that are expected. And also pinging on...
I have read on here and other places that it is normal for "ALL" vehicles to lose about 1 quart after 3,000 miles. In the past I have lost maybe 1/2 quart and once 1 quart after driving over 800 miles roundtrip doing 85+ mph.
This is the first time I have gone this long without changing the...
csandste, Thanks for that report. And that is exactly why I don't want to use the Mobil 1 filters. And now it sounds like the Ultraguard filters are made the same way which is swaying me away from them too.
I use GMPD and this place https://www.partszoneonline.com/index.html
Both a lot cheaper than the stealership.
I also know of someone else but will choose not to say since he is on another board.
Someone was telling me that the AC/Delco Ultraguard filters are made by Mobil 1. They said that the upgraded AC/Delco (being the ultraguard) is the same thing as the Mobil 1 filter just packaged for AC/Delco. Also said they do this for oil, mobil 1 will package it as goodwrench and sell to GM...
No this isn't a question of when synthetic will be the type of oil "ALL" people use. It is a question of how long it takes to clean out the old dino in an engine.
I switched to Mobil 1 5w30 at 89,000 miles in my 1997 Tahoe, it was fall and getting colder so I went with 5w30. I have had it since...
I believe in drive it how you normally do. If you drive like a granny, drive like a granny. If you drive hard, drive hard. That is what the dealer told my parents who bought a '04 Yukon. Also said to adjust the speeds on the highway to break it in. The engine will adjust to your driving style.
I have been reading about the Schaeffer's line of grease. Would this be a good grease to use in my '97 Tahoe to lube up the chassis, U-joints, ball joints etc...? Mainly been reading about the #221 and #274. Since I am in IA where it can be -20 in the winter to 100 in the summber I think the...
Thanks for all the replies and ideas, will have to try them next time I really didn't get oil all over me while taking the drain plug out. But I did make a mess all over the garage floor pouring the oil back in the bottles to take it to a collection place. I may buy one of those metal drip pans...
Ok, I will just continue to hand tight then on future changes. When the oil came out, it was kind of dark but didn't smell burnt. It was a 3,000 mile change. Could it be that it is still cleaning the engine since I just changed to M1 5,000 miles ago I will go for 4,000 miles the next time.
