    Synthetic Oil "Groups"

For years I have used and still do, Red Line motor oil. Early on, I heard it was a "Group 5" synthetic oil. What I do not understand is what defines an oil's "group," and wither one is chemically better than another. Yes, I do understand certain properties of an oil, like HTHS, viscosity index...

    Torn Purolators: they DO TEAR!

Okay, I've seen the photographic evidence of some of the white and blue filter tears. I don't know if this includes Purolator's PureOne or not, but...What about their new BOSS filters? They describe a new type of filter material, enforced and interwoven with a backing material. Anyone know of...

Any harm in using thicker oil?

My Toyota Tacoma uses 0W-20 engine oil, a VERY light viscosity. It's great for very cold temps, but what about nominal temps? I want to change to a 5W-30 as a better warm temp oil (80 degree summers, 40 degree winters) up here in western Washington (Seattle area). It's a 2017 model still under...

Purolator ONE. Did I just make a mistake?

By the way, on Purolator's site they state about their PureOne: "Re-engineered high-density synthetic blend media". Key word here is "re-engineered." I believe any worries about tearing have been put to rest.

Purolator ONE. Did I just make a mistake?

Oh boy! I read a lot about white colored cans, red colored cans, etc. What I know about the current BLUE colored PureOnes is that they are excellent. As is the Purolator BOSS. Years ago I posted the beta ratios for the PureOne, and to my knowledge no other cans have matched it. If a tear does...

    WS synthetic?

On another Toyota web site, a member showed broken trans parts from towing on the highway, in overdrive. The Toyota WS fluid simple broke down destroying the trans. It could not stand the high temps. I am taking my 2017 Tacoma to a trans shop who has a proper machine to completely remove the...

    PUREONE BETA RATES!

In response to my request, here is what Purolator states its beta rate is on the PureONE: Hi Katrina, Here are the Beta Ratios for the PureOne that was requested. Below I put the standard beta ratio chart for comparison. Micron 5 = B4.8 Micron 10 = B50 Micron 15 = B1000 Micron 20 = B1000...
