Bought a used truck. Oil recommendation :)

Yes it is common on that engine. How many miles? I believe around 80k to 100k is the common time it shows up. Hurts nothing short term, but needs to be addressed when they go bad. A simple check of the ford truck forums would give you an idea of the nature of the problem and the fix.

First get ready to replace the cam phasers, no this has nothing to do with Star Trek. When it begins to sound like a diesel when idling, that is the tip off they need replaced.

How to transition a high mileage car to synthetic?

Drain old oil, replace old filter with new filter, refile sump with synthetic oil. Done. Really its that simple, have done it numerous times......

    Poor MPG in chevy cruise

Well here in the real world, my cruze has 57000 miles on it and I've averaged 40 plus on summer formulation gas and 35 on winter formulation. It is a 2012 lt manual not an eco. Had one of the new ford focus for seven months and put 14000 miles on that and never hit the advertised sticker fuel...

    Not impressed with ne Focus

Exactly why I traded mine on a 2012 Chevy Cruze. The longer I had it the more I hated the way it worked, not to mention the inflated EPA rating on the gas mileage. After 14,000 miles I hit the 38 highway estimate one time. Yes only one time. I consistently do over 38 on the Cruze, last tank...

Brand New 2012 Nissan Versa (oil advice wanted)

Just traded mine off last year with 115,000 miles on the clock. Any good 5w30 oil will do. Tried them all, saw no real difference in consumption or quietness of motor. Used no oil between changes. You can easily go 7500 miles between changes on that engine, 1.8 liter. I've had a boatload of cars...

Any real MPG gain with synthetic motor oil?

No. Advertising hype. I check my gas mileage at every fill-up, never saw any difference between conventional and synthetic.

New Motor in an old car and oil choices.

My daughters M30 engined 735i has seen Mobil 15w50 and Castrol 5w50 presently being run. She puts about 7000 to 8000 miles on a year and I change oil yearly. The car uses no oil between changes, and now has about 150,000 miles on the odo. The mobil 15w50 would work fine for your use in my opinion.

Surprised at somewhat 'low' MPG in the Foci

This is one of the reasons that I wanted out of my new focus after four or five thousand miles. I have never had a car that I couldn't consistently exceed the EPA sticker rating. After thirteen thousand miles I only hit the highway estimate ONE time. Besides hating the drive train, the longer I...

    Dual-Clutch Auto trans

Bought a new focus in may of 2011. The longer I had the car the more I hated the drive train! In cruise, the thing was so sluggish when calling for more power it would eventually jump down at least 2 gears and roar till it shifted back to high gear, only to bog down again. Hated this, so much...

    Eldorado 1968

So how is that different than many modern engines with overhead cams? Just had a vg nissan engine apart for a wiped cam lobe and the lifters are much like the flat tappet lifters yet hydraulic by design. So why do these old engines require special oils? Don't modern oils carry sufficient...

    Eldorado 1968

Why does everybody assume that these engines are "flat tappet" I don't get it? Standard hydraulic lifters just like every other GM product in that time and era. No, am I wrong? How bout some documentation. I have an old Motor Manual,I'll check. Well, it only covers back to 1969, but if memory...

Sudden loss of power with 93 nissan pickup.

Check your front calipers out, they could be sticking ie, not releasing. Had the same truck a few years back, went over a bridge that was being resurfaced, and my rotors locked up almost to the point of not being able to get it off the road. After some gymnastics along the street I finally got...
