I used two 12 oz Gumout injection cleaner in two seperate fillups in the last month. My Bosch spark plugs are red now. i used techron before and never saw the spark plugs like that. What gives ?

Do most fuel additives really boost the octane number of the gas ? Most claim that but how true is it ? For example adding 1 bottle of additive in 15 gallons of fuel , how much the octane number will increase ? are they really worth the money or just use isoprpyl alcihol or nitromethane ?

BMW has funny engines. they take too long to totally break-in and they always like consume more oil than other german made engines. But that rate of consumption seems a bit excessive. BMW sures looks like it has some quality problems to adress after the M3 fiasco.

A lot of watercooled VW folks swear by the Redline MTL gear oil for their trannies but leakage results in older trannys from the shaft seals. New seals eliminate it though.

Euro castrol oils are PAO while NA Syntec is group III. Castrol even offers PAO makeup oil for the extended 10k miles that all Euro car makers reccomend. they even make 10W-60 which is sold as BMW oil .

Wow !! That's cold. Here in PA we have been going below freezing for the last month. I use the same grade Rotella Synth in my car. It starts fine but having used 10W-30 and 5w-30 before, I would avoid 5W-40 with sustained temps of -5C and lower.

Diferent opinions for different cars.In my VWs, i let it idle for a couple of minutes, and then drive away slowly. VWs have 90 psi pressure at startup, so waiting few minutes for the pressure to drop isn't a bad idea especially if running an external oil cooler.
