Replace Ford Windstar AC Clutch Bearing in Vehicle?

Yes, a shim washer in the clutch hub. The new kit had several thickness shims. I put the old shim in the new clutch and the gap was at the upper end of the clutch gap spec. So I took it out and put a thinner one in to set the gap at the lower end of the gap to allow for wear.

Replace Ford Windstar AC Clutch Bearing in Vehicle?

Agree. Automakers have abandoned struggling families needing a basic kid mover, like the original Dodge Caravan that we had when our kids came along. Basic cars for people starting out are gone too: Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Accent, Honda Fit, Dodge Colt (my first car), VW Beetle, etc.

    Burnishing Air Conditioner Clutch?

Just installed new A/C clutch on 2001 Ford Windstar. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/replace-ford-windstar-ac-clutch-bearing-in-vehicle.408540/#post-7658206 The directions call for burnishing the clutch, which I had done on brakes before but never an A/C clutch. The directions state...

Replace Ford Windstar AC Clutch Bearing in Vehicle?

I installed the new pulley and clutch plate as it looked to be pretty good quality. I didn't change the electromagnet. The A/C works fine so far. $75 in parts vs $1500-1800 shop compressor change. Took me a while (I'm slow) but hopefully will hold up for a few years. I'm putting in another...

Replace Ford Windstar AC Clutch Bearing in Vehicle?

Here is what the clutch pulley and disk face look like. If for some reason the new Four Seasons clutch is not right do you think these old parts would work well enough for a few years?

Replace Ford Windstar AC Clutch Bearing in Vehicle?

Chris, I'm replying back to you hoping you will see this. Thanks BTW for your responses on BITOG to help others, like myself a DIY guy. I'm trying to keep this car going for a couple years as it's my FIL (age 94) and it is sentimental to him even though he can't drive anymore. He is in a care...

Insurance value vs market value question

See if your state has an insurance commission. Take the issue to them. They should back you. When they see you have the state involved they may settle quickly. I'm in Virginia and I have talked to a state commission office. They want to back the residents was my take. Let us know how it turns out.

Replace Ford Windstar AC Clutch Bearing in Vehicle?

Van has 120k miles on it. It drives well and transmission shifts good for now. It has had a couple of transmission fluid changes over the years. Could use another change to hopefully keep it going.

Replace Ford Windstar AC Clutch Bearing in Vehicle?

Yes, compressor is on the bottom. But it is not as open as the Taurus. There are videos of clutch removal from Taurus compressor and it's not bad. On Windstar I would need to access from above where it is much less open. Yes, van is old, But $1500 for shop replacement is too much. I might try...

Replace Ford Windstar AC Clutch Bearing in Vehicle?

Clutch bearing has failed in 2001 Ford Windstar. Can the bearing be replaced without disconnecting the lines and removing the compressor from the vehicle? I know I need to take the compressor loose, just not sure I can position it to access the clutch. If it needs to be removed I will have to...

    Sludgy Coolant, 2001 Ford Windstar

Getting my in-laws van current on its maintenance. Coolant hadn't been change in a LONG time, as evidence by the state of the coolant. Wondering how far I should go with a flush. I plan to flush with water until water is clear. Then should I run some coolant flush like Prestone Radiator Flush...

No more Wix for me (Wix is good, but . . .)

I returned a Wix made in US six filter that had too few threads. Threads were dirty and poorly cut. The replacement was made in Mexico I think and looked much better thread wise. Of course the guts of the filter are what counts.
